Marios Tsangaris

About Me

He lives in southern Europe, in Athens. He creates music with any means available (instruments, computer, tape mixers, etc.). He studied piano and composition in Yiannis Ioannidis’ class, from which he graduated in 2006, with the composition diploma. He, also, studied music for cinema and theatre in Dimitris Papadimitriou’ class. He lives in the same house he was born. His piano piece “Obsessions A-B” was included in the cd compilation “Piano Music by Greek Composers” (piano: Ermis Theodorakis). His piano piece “Extremities A-B” was presented by Ermis Theodorakis at Edinburgh. Sometimes, he acts in very peculiar ways. He was member of the post punk-experimental group “Epomeni Kinisi”. He had collaborated with the ethnic-rock group “Ypogia Reymata” for two years and with George Bandoek Apostolakis for the creation of the music environment of the abstract performance installation “Anapodi Klosti” (Athens, 2008). He has written five scenarios for short films, one for a feature film and theatrical plays. He earns his living by writing texts for TV shows. He gets depressed easily and he enjoys lying under the sun. He conceived and presented the multimedia work “Low Fidelity” (for five home cd players and video) at the Young Artists’ Biennale in Athens, in 2003. He created (together with Lefteris Papadimitriou) the electronic pieces “Brick”, “Match”, “Baby Pop” and “Jolly Wood” (all presented at Small Music Theatre, Athens). He has composed pieces for solo instruments, string quartets, pieces for small ensembles, a concerto for cello and orchestra as well as a lot of electronic works. He has also composed a number of works for TV, theatre and cinema as well as a lot of pop, rock and dance songs.
He is not very keen on the internet.

About “Post-romanzos”:
“Post Romanzos” are piano pieces with the aim to combine the modern music language as it developed through the modernism and post-modernism with the aura of the romantic repertoir. This is accomplished through the co-existence of older and new musical elements (clusters followed by arpeggios, reiterative notes lead to lyrical passages, etc.) with a tiny touch of humorous feeling running through the compositions.
