SUPERHONEY
www.superhoney.comIt began over a decade ago with the release of their eponymous CD SuperHoney. What followed is a string of successes from sold-out shows, to multiple Boston Music Awards, to tours in Europe and China. SuperHoney, the high-octane band from Boston, has preached the gospel of their original rock n' soul music throughout New England, the U.S. and around the globe.
The band is fronted by Joan Pimentel, a woman with extraordinary talent, charisma and raw energy. She's been compared to everyone from Aretha Franklin to Janis Joplin to Bonnie Raitt and with good reason, her vocal range and prowess are second to none. The rest of SuperHoney is comprised of some of the top players in Boston: Paul Schultheis on Keys, Sean Nelson on Percussion, Dean Johnston on Drums, Doug Sherman on Guitar, Rich Palma on Bass, and John Aruda on Saxophone.
In April 2004, SuperHoney embarked on their first tour of Europe. With shows in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic, a whole new legion of honey fans came to life. Next came the release of their fifth CD, Theorems and Anthems, a ten-song masterpiece mixed by none other than Mudrock, famed engineer to countless indie-rock and major label artists. In June of 2004, SuperHoney opened-up for legends Earth, Wind and Fire at Mansfield's Comcast Center. And in the fall, the band toured again. This time to China to the cities of Beijing and Shanghai where few western acts are permitted to perform. In May of 2005, SuperHoney embarked on their second tour of Europe, again performing in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland.
The band has been nominated for 10 Boston Music Awards since 1998 and has taken home the trophy for Outstanding Funk/R n B Band for 3 consecutive years. Other awards include: the 2000 Boston Phoenix Poll for Best Soul Band, Runner-up in CDnow's National Best Unsigned Band contest, Best Local CD for 2001's Through the Radio Window as voted by the Boston Herald and countless others.
They've shared the stage with Earth, Wind and Fire, Chicago, the Tom Tom Club, Maceo Parker, Rustic Overtones, the Grey Boy All-Stars, the Average White Band, Deep Banana Blackout and Original Parliament Funkadelic. To date, nearly 20,000 copies of their five CDs have been sold.
