"Marty is a veteran of the local music scene that can always be counted on to deliver a great show. " --- Al Kniola, Host of THE BACK PORCH, 88.1 WVPE
Marty Miles is much more than your basic singer, guitarist, songwriter type. He's folk, folk-rock, rock - he grew up with The Beatles, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, Vanilla Fudge, Frank Sinatra, The King (duh, Elvis?), Chuck Berry, The Drifters, Ella Fitzgerald, Jimi Hendrix, The Temptations, The Mamas & The Papas, The Byrds, Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, and all that the Top 40 had to offer back then - which was more than it offers now that music is so consumerized and segregated. At that time Top 40 really meant the top 40 songs based on record sales regardless of genre. All that music and his nostalgic love for Vaudeville prepared him for the stage. Even today Marty continues to re-invent himself through his original music along side of covers of The Fray, U2, Larry Norman, REM, Chris Tomlin and others. But Marty Miles is more than an entertainer. He's a modern troubador in the purest sense.
When working solo Marty has been described as acoustic rock or electric folk. Mainly he thinks of himself as a folksinger who likes playing with a rock 'n' roll band. So when he can he pushes beyond solo gigs and gathers around him musicians who know how to let the music live. Sometimes it's acoustic, in twos and threes. When the venue allows, he'll go electric and pull out the stops. But whether solo, duo or with a band, it's always the human experience in song - love, loss, faith, futility, emptiness, longing, hope. And whether it's playful humor, raw emotion or spiritual sensitivity, you get a musical experience that is honest, heartfelt. Marty Miles always connects personally and, do we dare say, spiritually with his audience.
