" Africa is in whoever values its roots"
Dabi Debo Kanyinsola, a rare talent of his kind, an all -round master drummer and who is accomplished in an array of Yoruba traditions and drumming styles.
He has emerged over a decade as the most revered gangan drummer in Nigeria and perhaps the most famous gangan drummer in the world.. He is now one of the most respected and sought after drummers of his generation.
At home in Nigeria,he is known for his expertise in every genre from gangan to bata, akuba.gudugudu, ashiko, bembe, konga sakara, agidigbo.and ofcourse Dabi is a djembefola a genius of djembe improvisation with almost superhuman clarity
Between 1990 to 2007 Dabi has toured internationally performing in dozens of high-profile festivals and independent tours of USA,Germany,Italy,Spain,France,Belgium, Canada,India,Austria ,Australia,Scadinavian,Japan, South Korea ,Poland,Jamaica,Holland, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia,China ,Taiwan ,Phillipines,Tahiti,HongKong,Ireland ,NZ and United Kingdom.
Born in Lagos,Nigeria, West Africa,to a family of Master Drummers of the Yoruba tribe.( Chief Are-Ilu of Iseyin town in Oyo State of Nigeria)
From an early age dancing and drumming formed an intrinsic part of his life. He was raised in the Yoruba tribal culture, one that works, worships, lives and breathes to the beat of the drum, which has been primarily used to transmit traditional knowledge.
The drum is the focal point of Dabi’s life story, and as well his link to the western world. After his graduation from the University of Montpellier, France, he pursued a brief career as a graphic artist, and then returned to traditional African music. Since that time, Mr. Kanyinsola has acquired a global reputation as an entertainer, instrumentalist, choreographer, dancer, and instructor. He absorbed the music and culture of entire West Africa and brings this out in his music.
Since 2006 ,he has embarked on a mission to show the world that African drums (especially talkingdrums) can blend into any musical background, proving this by collaborating with the renowned British TV composer Howard Goodall and Steven Morgan ’s "We Are The Burning Fire",it was a huge success. In August 2008 Dabi was featured in the first African-Asian movie "Entangled in Tokyo".
The African culture does not have to be something seen in an exotic sense, it is for everyone to share and understand.
I think that if music were our currency,Africa would be the world’s richest continent...as we depend on music to nourish nearly every phase our lives.
Ordinary daily activities are surrounded by many types of folk music such as work songs ,solo instrumental improvisations, medicinal music, the music of wandering ministrels, spontaneous songs and music performed purely for the participants ’enjoyment.
"My music seeks to fashion a reflection of order and purity out of the high ’entropy’ state of today’s living, particularly in my part of Africa". -----DDK

"Fatherland Nigeria"
Though in hardship we many suffer,
We assure tomorrow by steadfast work,
As a breed of people never subdued.
Though our country's name is tarnished,
By few of us in unpopular ventures,
We remain achievers across the world,
For most of us are true good men,
Revered by those who really know us.
Though in tribe and tongue we may differ,
And though in the past, we fought a war,
We stand stronger in pending freedom,
Cherishing the labor of our heroes past,
In loving strength and faith united,
To uphold that honor and that glory,
Of a people diverse but industrious,
And yes we're called the Nigerians.
This fatherland and native country
Of plentiful rain and moderate climate
Endowed with nature's own blessings,
Allowing production of diverse food,
Oil and gas and major minerals,
Blended with a populous citizenry,
This is my own dear native land,
And with God in it we proudly stand.

Drums of passion, drums of anger, drums of sorrow, drums of joy;the slap, pound, rattle and the boom ignites a fire in the heart, and sets the spirit free. Free to laugh. Free to cry. Free to dance. Fre...
