About Me

Native Miamian now living in metro Atlanta. Autodidact artist's materials and audio profesional. Retired facility manager (and outside sales rep) from the wholesale art materials industry after 23 years. Worked in wholesale record and tape distribution (TK Records/ Tone Distributors, MJS Entertainment, long before CD's) in Hialeah in the late 70's. Occasional visual artist. Consummate volunteer; American Hospital (ER and Radiology), Civil Air Patrol, Coral Gables Police Explorers, Communications Association of Miami (Motorists' Aid, Medical, Special Events), Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department, American Red Cross (CPR and First Aid Instructor, Shelter Manager) and others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Former live and studio audio engineer from the Miami music scene. Did sound for about twelve years before burnin' out (the live sound engineering gig takes it's toll quickly). Did some biggies... Miami Sound Machine (very early), Charlie Daniels, Henry Rollins (both as Black Flag and solo, remember the OLD Cameo Theater on the Beach?), others at The Cameo (The Drills, Cherry Rude, etc) and mostly local and regional bands, choirs, orchestras, riots, day-care centers, retirement villages and so on. All time favorite head-bangers were Stranglers of Bömbay (you old-timer Miami metal-heads know them fer shur). Remember all of the keg party shows in cow pastures out in the boonies around Cutler Ridge, backyard gigs with scaffolding towers and stages, theatrical lighting and pyros? Wild shit. Mr. Zulu and I practically lived at Tobacco Road too mixing B.B. King, Diamond Tooth Mary, Koko Taylor, Buddy Guy, and tons of others mostly upstairs (if you know The Road). Never did DJ stuff. Zulu and I also did work at Musicians Exchange in Lauderdale, The Sync in Miami and other rehersal/ recording facilities (and garage studios) around South Florida, most notibly The American Legion Post in Bal Harbor, site of my very first sound lesson. That "class" led to my first job with the retro- psychedelia band Wishful Thinking playing upstairs at Big Daddy's Lounge in Bal Harbor (the small time!) (these guys played "In The Court Of The Crimson King" better than King Crimson did!). Major thanks to Mr. Giannelli, Mr. McKenney and Mr. Zulu Frampton for the opportunity. Our first paycheck from that job resulted in a $1.00 overage that we tore into five pieces. I still have my fifth. Moved to Cental Florida in '88, and then Atlanta in '99. Had to give up my "day job" in '03 due to throat cancer. 30-plus years of hard drinkin' and smokin' caught up with me big time! Been cancer free since early '04 after chemo and radiation (brutal!).

Vocabulary Suggestions

I would like some suggestions for a word to replace "awesome". I think that term is sufficiently burned out. Not everything that's good is awesome! LET'S GET CREATIVE!! (See Below)
