About Me

At the age of 18 Elijah Balbed has already established himself as one of the top young Tenor players in the DC Metropolitan area. A student of Paul Carr’s, Elijah has had the opportunity to play with local jazz greats such as Eric Byrd, Allyn Johnson, Lyle Link, Paul Wingo, Harold Summey, Bubbles Dean, along with many others. Elijah is highly influenced by the lights of players such as Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Coltrane, Joshua Redman, Art Blakey, and others from the Blue Note era.In 2007 Elijah was a recipient of the Maryland Distinguished Scholar Award in the division of Talent-in-the-Arts, and has also won the Overall Best Soloist Award in the MBDA Big Band Festival and the Festival Disney Jazz Competition. Elijah is a member of the Montgomery County Honors Jazz Ensemble, the All-State Jazz Band, the Kaleidoscope Orchestra, the Twins Jazz All-Stars Quartet, and leads his own jazz quintet, the Jazz Emperors.
