The Meaning of "Meant to Be" - Jan. 20, 2008
We had been talking/hanging out/seeing each other/casually dating/whatever you want to call it for the past year and some. We had known each other since the beginning of high school, it's not like we were strangers. Eman and I officially became an item on Nov. 24, 2007. Now that you know how our friendship turned into a loving and fulfilling relationship, here's why I believe in "meant to be."
This afternoon: We just finished mass and were eating at a Chinese restaurant with my family. It was the usual family chatter. We argued about which chick played what role in Pirates, we debated on whether or not the shrimp had mayo on it, and my nephew learned how to use a camera and took the funniest pictures of us. And the table. And the people next to us. Hehe. Then came fortune cookie time! I was too engrossed in making sure the bill was correct (too bad it's never in English), so I forgot to grab one. But Eman opened his and his fortune read, "A new relationship is about to blossom. You will be blessed." I thought it was pretty sweet and appropriate.
This evening: I moved into Eman's house last month and up to this day, I'm not completely settled in yet. Some of my things are still in boxes. We were watching Rescue Dawn in my room and since I had seen some of it already, I decided to unpack at least one box. So I'm going through all this junk and I pull out my old Rocawear wallet. Surprisingly, there was still stuff in it. And in the clear window where you would put your ID, there was a fortune from a fortune cookie. It read, "A new relationship is about to blossom. You will be blessed." I was pretty shocked. I remember getting that fortune shortly after the first time Eman kissed me, if not the day after. November 2006. I remember saving it because I wanted to show it to him one day if it ever came true. I mean, I understand that it's very possible for two different people to get the same fortune because let's face it, fortune cookie are mass produced, right? But, how is it that two different people who are connected get the same fortune from two different places? And how is it that the day Eman gets his fortune, I decide to unpack my things and find the one I got? It's just meant to be, that's why.
