About Me

It was kind of by accident that I started playing the guitar and writing songs. You see, music was my santuary when I was a teenager. I'd cloister myself in my room all night listening to my albums, and fall asleep with the radio on. And of course once I had wheels, the music was top 40 radio or my home made cassettes blasting from my bad ass AC Delco stereo. But, I was never a musician, just a music lover and a shower singer. Songwriting just seemed like something only artists like Elton John, Billy Joel and James Taylor were allowed to do, so it never accured to me to even try. However, that all changed when I attended Terri Hendrix songwriters workshop for the first time in 2005. I showed up with a cheap guitar from Costco (with two lessons under my belt), and a song I had just written that I could only sing acapella. I was kind of drop kicked into a world I knew very little about. Ignorance is bliss you know...there I was surround by all these amazingly talented people. And I had a great time. I was totally encouraged to keep writing and playing. So that was the beginning, it was the genesis, the seed in the dirt that sprang forth this new passion into my life. For now, my goal is to get out there and play some open mics, and share my songs with whoever cares to listen. It can be a lot of fun, and I've met some really great people along the way. So give my songs a listen, and I sure hope you like them. P.S. I had a nice little write up by Mike Damante in The Daily Cougar. Here is what he said about me:SOUND CHECK: Keep an eye on local talent Published: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 Updated: Thursday, January 8, 2009Leslie Krafka is just getting her feet wet as singer/songwriter in the local Texas music scene. While Krafka may be a rookie, her music is far from sounding green. There is a worldly feeling in her simple, catchy songs that have appeal beyond the tag of Texas music.?There is certainly a distinct folk influence, along with some country and bluegrass in the songs. For those turned away by country, you can still enjoy Krafka's music, which makes the listener open up their ears and minds. Krafka, a proud wife and mother of two, spends her free time perfecting her craft playing local venues and attending songwriting festivals.?"Kiss Your Wife" is a touching song written from the perspective of a man who recently lost his spouse. The song was inspired from a eulogy given at a funeral for a friend of Krafka, and the song is celebration of life and marriage, rather than being somber.?Krafka is proof that it is never too late to start a realization of a dream.?
