At the early age of seven David Scuba's passion began with a drum set and weekly lessons. His love for music would continue throughout his life from rocking out to funk with his parents, to jamming on the trumpet with his grandfather. The foundation of music and life has become the force behind his involvement in the music industry for nearly a decade.
In the late 90's Scuba's religious attendance to Friday nights at Twilo (NYC) exposed him to the underground sounds of electronic dance music. Permanently ingrained in Scuba's mind is the vivid memory of standing in the DJ booth next to Carl Cox., Sven Vath, Sasha & Digweed. Scuba's memorizing experiences of world renown DJ's rocking the floor played an intricate role in his development as a DJ. He wasted no time in getting involved and immersed himself in the industry, clocking in numerous hours of hard work with some valuable experience in A&R, and early partnerships in record labels like Timeless Groove Records (TGR) and Real Music Deal (RMD). Scuba signed talented artists such as: Peter Bailey, Serge Devant, KC Flight, and Funky Junction. Both of his labels were managed and distributed by Pinnacle Distribution, one of the largest independent management and distribution companies in the UK. Scuba's involvement in these labels helped build strong relationships over the years.
Scuba is now focused on the production side of the business. Most of his spare time is spent in the studio, working on highly anticipated tracks. Closing on almost a decade, Scuba has tacked on one great experience after another, from the early days at private house parties to his stints on the decks in Mexico, Panama, and the UK. Living in New York City, Scuba was an important part of the rotation at some amazing club nights with monthly residencies at Centro-fly, Sullivan Room, and Le Souk. He also played at Erik Morillo's old resident club Discotec (NYC), Cielo (NYC), as well as venues in Kansas City, Baltimore, and DC. His Winter Music conference (Miami) appearances include Nocturnal, B.Y.O.R. ( Marlin), and Space with Andrew Grant (DC-10) . Over the years, he developed friendships and played with legends such as Terry Francis, Mr. C and emerging talent like: Andrew Grant, Adultnapper, Steve Porter, Palo Mojo, and Astro&Glyde.
Scuba's unique sound of dirty funky techno/tech house attracts the amateur cluber as well as the seasoned industry expert. Within minutes of the first funky bass line his electronic grooves create a vibe in the room that last throughout the wee hours. His infectious fun-loving personality, unique style, and passion put him in a class of his own.
The path of music was inevitable from the start of Biiba Barbour's young life. Living in a musical household she began toying around on her mother's piano as soon as she was tall enough to reach the bench. Her parents encouraged her love affair of music at an early age of eight. The raw talent and acute ear were obvious and she quickly learned the fundamentals of the piano. Throughout the years she was exposed to all types of sounds ranging from Cuban to Bob Marley, music was already playing an essential part of her life.
Her first trip to Europe would change what Biiba once knew as dance music. Biiba was inspired to explore the energy and culture of disco-techs in Italy, Paris, and Germany. Shortly after returning to the US, she immediately ran to buy decks to master the skills in an attempt to replicate the mezmorising experience in Europe. A few months after Europe Biiba attended one of the biggest electronic music events in US history. Inspired by the energetic grooves she knew that dance music would always be a part of her life. Shortly after, Biiba moved up to Los Angeles and submersed herself in the LA music scene, capitalizing on every opportunity to study the global DJ talent of widely recognized LA venues: Vanguard and Avalon. Heavily influenced by the evolving underground sounds of icons such as Danny Howells, Steve Lawler and Lee Burridge, Biiba became a talented DJ and developed a unique style of her own.
Biiba Barbour and David Scuba had an instant magnetic connection when they met with a paralleled vision of music, life, and culture. The first time they graced the decks together they created a sound of electro/techno/funk and without question they both knew something developed before their eyes. Biiba and Scuba began working together as DJs and collaborating extensively in the studio. Recently, Biiba and Scuba have become a part of ChemistryLA, a sub-division of Chemistry.nl in Amsterdam. Stay tuned for the date of their new residency in Los Angeles...
