How it all began:
Brothers Jared and Shannon Leto had always had an intrest in art and music. Shannon says he got his first actual set of drums at age 8 however he had always found a way to convay his sound. He later joined a comunity jazz band. Once older Jared and Shannon came together to create a band punk band called The Noise Fucks.
In 1998 the brothers were singed to Virgin Records. They took 4 years to create their self titled debut preduced by music giant Bob Ezrin. Jared played gutair, piano and sang. Shannon played the drums and helped with what he could. They recruted Kevin Drake on gutair, Solon Bixler on gutair, and Matt Wachter on Bass. They toured under different names and if any show were to be marketed using Jared's name they would back out.
After creating a strong backing and touring for a while Solon and Kevin backed out and they were replaced by a fan. Tomislav "Tomo" Milicevic younger brother to Ivana Milicevic is a classically trained violinist and a certified pastry chef.
Now going into the studio with 2 new people they created a new sound on their second record entitled A Beautiful Lie produced by Josh Abraham. They recorded it in several different countries and it was realsed in 2005. After many years of touring Matt found it straning on his new marrage so he droped out to be in a band that could better understand his need to be with his family, so he joined Angels and Airwaves.
Bassist Tim Kelleher stepped in and has been touring with 30 since may 2007 however there has been no comformation if Tim is in. Many fans were waiting for the music video for A Beautiful Lie to see who will be the permanent replacement. However there was no basist featured in the video. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
What's in a name?
Contrary to popular belief 30 Seconds to Mars has nothing to do with space. The band likes to create art in which all can relate and interpet in their own way so they keep pretty much everything a secret.
As we all know Jared has a slight obsession with Greek and Roman Mythology, Mars was the Roman god of war, the son of Juno and Jupiter, but that has nothing really to do with the band.
The Leto Brothers have eluted to a passage Jared had found while researching said mythology which was a metephor in which 30 Seconds to Mars was born.
What do the The Symbols mean?
Like I said the band likes it when people interpet in their art in their own way. This is all based on a general echelon understanding of what we think they might mean.
The glyphics stand for the bands name.
The first symbol is two intertwined threes representing 30.
The second symbol is a clock with two hands spining, the second hand on a clock represents SECONDS.
The third symbol is three vertical lines, but if you look in between them you get the roman numeral two or TO.
The last symbol represents a planet with its two moons, what planet has two moons? MARS, Phobos and Deimos.

The first symbol is a W or a sideways 3 which represents 30
The second symbol is an hourglass on it's side which represents SECONDS
The third symbol is made up of two semi circles representing the word TO
In the last symbol there is an E or a sideways M and the middle line is extended on both sides which represents MARS it's 2 moons
What's the deal with the Phoenix?
The band's phoenix logo (which the band named "Mithra") bears the phrase "Provehito in Altum", the band's motto. The logo was primarily used for promotion of the band's debut album, where as for A Beautiful Lie, the new Trinity logo was created consisting of three skulls, along with the band's name and motto. It also symbolizes rebirth, a common theme in 30stm.
What does the phrase 'Provehito In Altum' mean?
Roughly translated from Latin, this means "Launch forth into the deep". It is the band's motto.
What does 'Conare me sistere' mean?
Try and stop me.
A few Echelon like to use it as their motto, I have yet to hear of the band using it.
What's with the Arrow?
The arrow or Tyre, is the visual representation for "Provehito in Altum." The progressive leap. "Launch forth into the unknown." It means: Honor, justice, leadership and authority. Knowing where one's true strengths lie. Willingness to self-sacrifice. Victory and success in any competition or in legal matters.
What's with the X?
The X hieroglyph is a numerical symbol for multiplication ('coming together'), in the spatial sense it symbolizes division ('unifying under one banner').

What does the phrase 'Per Aspera Et Astra' mean?
To the stars through difficulties, Tomo has it tattooed on his arm along with the 30 symbols.
What is the Echelon?
Echelon is a song from 30 Seconds to Mars' self titled debut that was also featured on the soundtrack for the movie 'The Core'.
The echelon is also a group of devoted 30 Seconds to Mars fans who are sometimes referred to as the Mars Army.
Our mission is to spread the word about the band while developing and maintaining a strong community. The band thinks of us as a sort of dysfunctional family. They give us gifts and we do the same back weither it may be in the literal since or through our support and promotion.

What is The Argus Apocraphex?
Many different people have different interpatations on this subject but This is what I have come to believe it means.
It is a phrase found in the bucklet in both cds which is followed by "To the Warriors and the Creepers of the Gate - We Await...Provehito in Altum".
Jared and Shannon have eluted to it being from an old manuscript rummered to be written by a Harvard Professor possibly the same one they found 30 seconds to mars in.
Argo is said to be a constellation located around the milky way. Apocraphex is a Greek word for "hidden" or "kept secret". I know you are wondering why a constellation needs to be kept secret? Well simply, it doesn't exist anymore. It has been broken up 4 different smaller constellations.
So in the spirt of 30 it can be explained as:
question the universe, "find the Argus Apocraphex" and find yourself.
