About Me
Driven by visceral passion and emotion and infused with philosophy. Justice, love, politics, war, liberty, humanism, and naturalism are some of the many ideas the band continues to write about. Sparked from the teachings and philosophical genius of Plato, they continue to search for the unbiased common ground of life and veracity through their music. As influenced mainly from the Allegory of the Cave by Plato, they feel messages in life by the “ones in charge†are misconstrued and misinformed to the masses, allowing people to be manipulated or coerced into conformity and capitulation. “Music is our weapon… our WMD… for people to use in any way they can, to relate to, be empowered with, or in any infinitesimal way to be enlightened.†– Verzino says. They hope their music can also encourage people to stand out against ever being kept in the dark with the inability to correct things and have a voice towards issues that exist and events that transpire in the world today.
Coming from a small suburban area just outside of New York City, where rock seems to be the musical scapegoat, the band that calls themselves Cast In Shadows pushes the envelope to a whole new level. The five members of the band were raised within 10 miles from each other on Long Island, and Ronkonkoma is the central focus point where the band meets, writes and rehearses. In this area, Cast In Shadows is surrounded by countless tribute and cover bands as well Hardcore and Emo. But the band continuously and strategically arranges shows at some of Long Island’s most popular nightclubs like "The Crazy Donkey,†"Mulcahys" & "The Downtown" and sells out the venues consistently.
Cast In Shadows creates a powerful sonic landscape, a place where diverse influences blend into a singular musical result which is driving and aggressive, yet soaring in melody. The name "Cast In Shadows" was influenced by Plato’s "Allegory of the Cave,†a bright light exposes a deeper message of hope and importance of truth. Drawing on influences from Sevendust and Tool, to Incubus and Creed, Cast In Shadows has forged their own distinct genre of "melodic metal." Their decades of combined musical training have given rise to a collection of beautifully crafted songs that are the hallmark of this newly formed, yet visionary band.
Always paying meticulous attention to detail, the band recently parted ways with original drummer Shaun Seifert and in return took on the years of experience Jason Fenichel. The now older and wiser five member band (Vinny Verzino, lead vocals; Brian Branch, guitar; Kevin Corey, guitar; Anthony Olivieri, bass; and Jay Fenichel, drums) have quickly evolved to a maturity level unparalleled by their peers. This single-minded focus to the growth of the band and its music has already produced a wide range of tracks from the compelling "In Your Eyes" and "Find My Way" to the empowering "The Chains That Bind"
For the alternative rock group Cast In Shadows, it has been a long journey to attain this level of unity. In a search spanning close to three years, the five individuals --- some long time friends, others strangers --- have come together for a common goal: to create music that would inspire emotion in their listeners, while at the same time, making a strong statement. Although the members of C.I.S. are passionately serious about their music, they have the unique ability to write, practice and perform in relative calm environment. The result is music that is clean, crisp and never compromised.
In early 2003, guitarist Kevin Corey was sick and tired of compromise; he wanted to form the perfect group. After explaining his ideas to long time friend and co-guitarist Brian Branch, the foundation was set. Soon, a combination of blind luck and dedication would help Cast In Shadows become a reality. In a twist of fate, Kevin met bassist Anthony Olivieri and original drummer Shaun Seifert while shopping in a local convenient store. After exchanging phone numbers and having a short jam session, it was apparent that the band was two giant steps closer to completion.
Though gaining a drummer and bassist helped to ease pressure within the band, it made finding a singer of the same caliber that much more imperative.
A search began that seemed to have no end. In November 2004 Vincent Verzino walked into the makeshift studio the band had created and changed everything. Vinny restored desperately needed hope and excitement to the band.
Their ever-conscious approach to writing music and lyrics is always eminent. With more than two albums worth of songs and years of stage experience under their belts, Cast In Shadows is primed to explode onto the national music scene. They have garnered a reputation for emotional and dynamic, yet cohesive live shows, and are sure to yield fans wherever they travel. In the music world, what is seen and heard is not always what is talented and deserving. Cast In Shadows is ready, and the time is now.
