The Nephew Brothers

About Me

In the storied history of independent country gospel, the late depression recordings by the original Nephew Brothers represent a curious anomaly. They sound like true gospel should sound: fierce and strong, not dedicated to any church but independent and free.
Today, The Nephew Brothers are back. In fact, their grandsons and -daughters have regained the faith and now are on a mission, spreading the word of true gospel music. Their brand new recordings - featuring a lo-fi-like interpretation of the classic originals - are rare instances of the convergence of two important cultural movements - the emerging country music recording industry of earlier days and the impressive tradition of singing religious folk music from shape-note tunebooks.
