Diego Lopez

Born in Milan Italy, Diego began playing Drums at age 11. By age 15, he was working professionally with local bands playing everything from Jazz, pop Brazilian, and Latin music.

Diego also plays many other percussion instruments spannig from general percussion instruments to brazilian and afrocuban.

In 1988, he became affiliated with “Feeling Good”, a local agency that specializes in booking American acts, and toured Europe extensively. His versatility and professionalism make him one of the most in demand drummers in Italy. Soon he was working as a staff musician on Italian television, performing in many of Italy's most popular TV shows.
In 1991, Diego relocated in Chicago, Illinois, where he started playing with blues legends: Junior Wells, Sugar Blue, Melvin Taylor, Pinetop Perkins, Mighty Joe Young and many others. He worked as well with jazz singer Shirley Scott, Gospel group the Hensley’s and toured with the Drifters, the Coasters and Hengelbert Humperdink. He also worked as a studio musician, recording a great number of commercials and music for TV and radio.
In 2000, Diego decided to relocate to the East Coast, where he established himself on New York’s music scene.

He has recorded or performed internationally with: Oscar Hernandez, Hilton Ruiz, Ray Vega, Paquito D’ Rivera, Giovanni Hidalgo, Jane Bunnet, Juan Carlos Formell, Edy Martinez, Dave Valentin, Eddie Allen, Dave Samuels, Gato Barbieri, Dominik James, Diane Schurr, Julio Fernandez, Oriente Lopez, Steve Kroon, Chembo Corniel, Syotos, Grady Tate among others.

Diego's teaching experience includes, Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, Drummers Collective in New York City, and the University of Fairbanks Alaska.
