Words to live by, words to die by-
Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footsteps on the moon.
-Anon.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.
-Confucius
One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.
-Lucille Ball
Everyone makes a greater effort to hurt other people than to help himself.
-Alexis Carrel
A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog.
-Jack London
Never give in! Never give in! Never, never, never. Never -- in anything great or small, large or petty -- never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.
-Sir Winston Churchill
I never doubted my ability, but when you hear all your life you're inferior, it makes you wonder if the other guys have something you've never seen before. If they do, I'm still looking for it.
-Hank Aaron
If being an egomaniac means I believe in what I do and in my art or music, then in that respect you can call me that ... I believe in what I do, and I'll say it.
-John Lennon
To run away from danger, instead of facing it, is to deny one's faith in man and God, even one's own self. It were better for one to drown oneself than live to declare such bankruptcy of faith.
-Mahatma Gandhi, November 24, 1946
All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
-Anon., "North DeKalb Kiwanis Club Beacon"
A critic is a man who knows the way but can't drive the car.
-Kenneth Tynan
In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins--not through strength but by perseverance.
-H. Jackson Brown, Jr
Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
-Saint Francis of Assisi
The Butterfly
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day, a small opening appeared. He sat for several hours as it struggled to force it's body thought the little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it has a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that at any moment the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. In fact, neither happened. The butterfly spent the rest of it's life crawling, with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly. What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were it's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into it's wings so that it would be ready for flight once is achieved it's freedom from the cocoon. Sometimes the struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacle, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been- we could never fly!
