YOUNG JAYLA DUK (SP)

About Me

The name JAYLA DUK was given to me by my older brother Hack when I was around the age of 10 or so. I took the name and ran with it from then on. I also added an extra part to my name which is THA SUVINER. The souvenir is a gift or remembrance that individuals bring back from vacations or visits to historical places etc. By calling myself JAYLA DUK, THA SUVENIR, I am stating that once the industry or the world buys on to JAYLA DUK is like they receive a souvenir to take back with them. My music brings a gift the game and others just as a souvenir would.
JAYLA DUK, born 1988, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the “Tar Heel” State, began to pursue a career in music at a very young age. JayLa Duk, also known as, Lozey, Lopez, or Lo, had a quick, unique, ear for music. Since the age of 10, JayLa Duk has consistently, practiced tackling the aspect of writing his own rap lyrics. The music world of Hip-Hop and Rap genres, were all introduced to him by his two older brothers Hack, aka “Haxoba” and LoveJoy of local rap group, TYFU. JayLa caught on to the art of Hip-Hop, by watching his two older brothers along with friends, write and record music out of there mother’s small apartment home. JayLa Duk comes from a family full of musical talent, including cousins, uncles and even his mother and grandmother. JayLa knew he had a talent and a voice for rapping when he would freestyle in front of friends and would he leave them applaud. Joshua, aka JayLa Duk, had his first debut on his brother’s album, TYFU: Out of Control. He appeared on the intro of the album, even though this was not much, the opportunity started JayLa’s career on the mic as a rapper. At the age of 15, JayLa Duk had almost mastered his style of writing and found his niche as a rapper. Not stopping there, he then picked up another aspect of music, which was producing where he also learned from his older brother Haxoba. JayLa watched Haxoba produce two full, hot, local TYFU albums. He then started using a software program, Fruity Loops 3 to start his career as a beat maker. Each year he upgraded to the newest versions along with sharpening his bars as a lyricist. By age 17, JayLa was recording many songs during the summer only to better his skills as a recording artist. He was coached by Haxoba and others as how to land bars correctly and was taught other recording ethics. By the end of the summer 2007, JayLa was starting to put together his first album. While doing so, he also was learning some recording engineering which was again, taught to him by his older brother Hack. Due to contract problems, the studio was taken away from him and his brother, so he did not get a chance to finish the album. JayLa Duk went off to college in the fall of 2007, where he still attends Winston-Salem State University as a Mass Communications Major and a Music Business/Marketing Minor. He looked to network with several artists in Winston-Salem and Greensboro to continue to record hot music, while at the same time, maintaining a 3.8 GPA. During the time in school, he and his brother built another studio back in Durham, N.C. where they now continue to record radio ready, singles and bang out fire beats. JayLa has done work with his other brother’s company Faculty Entertainment, but has now found his own label/company build up. JayLa Duk is the founder and CEO of Stop Play Entertainment, where he is a song writer, recording artist, producer and engineer. Hoping to pursue a career as a rapper and producer, JayLa has found his niche and is ready for the world, but is wondering if the world is ready for what he has to offer.
