About Me

BIO: Jay Johnson began his professional music career at Alabama ’s Muscle Shoals Sound Studio as a session guitarist for Malaco Records artist Mary Burns. Since that time Johnson has evolved into a broad spectrum musician, songwriter, producer and audio engineer.Along with drummer John Blumer, Johnson co-founded the popular regional act RADIO TOKYO in 1986, leading to performing as a member of THE ROSSINGTON BAND from 1986-89. That band performed for over a million music fans in that time, most notably during the LYNYRD SKYNYRD TRIBUTE TOUR in those years, releasing two major label LPs and appearing on the Lynyrd Skynyrd video from the same tours. 1994 saw a merging of forces as Johnson teamed with BLACKFOOT drummer Jakson Spires and MOLLY HATCHET guitarist Dave Hlubek to form the SOUTHERN ROCK ALLSTARS, which toured extensively in the US, Mexico and Europe and still continues to perform today. The SRA band released three cds on the Tazer label and a live DVD showcasing its many influential band members. Johnson most recently served as lead vocalist and guitarist for classic rock powerhouse BLACKFOOT and appears on the latest DVD release from that band, ”Train Train: Southern Rock’s Best Live”.Currently Jay Johnson is at work on a solo cd, writing new material, searching for new artists to produce sessions on and most recently adding acoustic shows to his list of live dates.JAY JOHNSON DISCOGRAPHY:BLACKFOOT“Train Train: Southern Rocks Best Live”Live DVD and CDCleopatra Records 2007SOUTHERN ROCK ALLSTARS“Crazy Again” 1999“ Danger Road ” 2002“A Night of Healing” 2003Benefit For The RI Fire Victims“Trouble’s Comin’ Live” 2004Tazer Records/Record Heaven Records“Trouble’s Comin’ Live: The DVD” 2006Tazer/MTM-SPV“Spirit of the Black Rose: Phil Lynott Tribute” 2001European ReleaseTHE ROSSINGTON BAND“Returned to The Scene Of The Crime” 1986Atlantic Records“Love Your Man” 1988MCA Records“Hard Rock II” 1994 Compilation“Rockin’ Southern Style” 1994 CompilationTHE ROSSINGTON-COLLINS BAND“20TH Century Masters” 2004LYNYRD SKYNYRD“Southern By the Grace Of God” 1988“Solo Flytes” 1999“Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Tour” 1988 Video/DVDMCA RecordsETTA JAMES“The Right Time” 1992Elektra RecordsRADIO TOKYO“Songscape” 1993Tazer RecordsTHE DIXIE JAM BAND“Jammin For DJB” CD and video 2000KING KARMA (Canadian Act)“King Karma” 2003TWINBALL (Swedish Act)“Remnants Of A Broken Soul” 2002SAWYER BROWN“The Dirt Road” 1990
