At the age of six, an age when most children are playing hopscotch on sidewalks and tag in backyards, Spencer was at the world famous Apollo theater wowing crowds. This child prodigy was performing in local talent competitions and showcasing in performance venues by the age of ten. With a maturity far beyond her years, Spencer began writing songs for other artists by the age of fourteen. It was at the tender age of fourteen that Spencer returned to the Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night to reclaim as a young adult the same audience she’d amazed as a child. Sye walked away from the Apollo a first place winner that night. Spencer then connected with some talented young ladies and formed the group Free. Spencer was the sole songwriter for Free and the group gained local acclaim performing in high schools throughout New York’s five boroughs.
Seventeen found Spencer moving to the next level of her singing career further honing her skills and talents as a vocalist. She soon joined the world renowned Morgan State University choir where she was afforded the opportunity to tour nationally. In 2008, Spencer decided it was time to step out on her own, to find and showcase her own voice as a young woman. She began working on solo projects collaborating with artists like producers Kirk Lee of My Brother’s Keeper and Debonair Samir of One Pham Entertainment.
In 2009, Spencer is bringing her confident, soulful sound which runs the gambit from hip hop to rock to the NYC underground scene. Spencer is a rare and diverse phenomenon just waiting to happen, she is a blend of style and substance, beauty and brains, humor and levity scarcely found in this day and age of disposable pop ring tone music.
