Carlos Johnson began playing music at Kashmere Senior High School under the direction and inspiration of well known musical director, Conrad Johnson.
Carlos continued his study of music at Texas Southern University. While at T.S.U., Carlos performed as a member of the Texas Southern Jazz Ensemble winning many awards, including first place at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival. Carlos has performed with saxophonist Kirk Whalum, along with jazz great Arnett Cobb and the Mob. During his 28 year musical career, Carlos has explored many musical venues playing with country, pop, rock, and classical performers. He has toured the United States and overseas with such groups as War, Bobby Womack, Dr. Hook, Sarah Vaughn, Willie Nelson, New Jack Hippies, D.R.U.M. and even the Houston Ballet ! Carlos Johnson is currently performing locally with Congas by Carlos, Clay Melton (the prodigy child), and Patrice Pike when she is performing on Wednesdays at the Mucky Duck.
As you can see, Carlos is a seasoned musician as well as a percussion instrucment instructor.
