About Me

EXOPILOTS - A BRIEF HISTORY

eXopilots first formed in December 2007 in Staffordshire. Martyn and Matt Pratt have known James (affectionately known as Pazz) for a long time and met Chris when he first arrived in the UK (from South Africa) in 2004, having all gone to the same school. Martyn, James and Chris played in the grunge band Crown the Dog King for a long time, before the band's departure from the local scene in late 2006. The split of CDK created the two smaller side projects of 22nd Threat (which included James,Martyn and Matt)and Körperkult (which included Chris and long time eXopilots friends Mark Smith and Tom Bradshaw-Smith ). These two bands ultimately took a different musical route in terms of genre as 22nd Threat headed towards a metal/thrash genre with genuine rhythmic and melodic experimentalism, and Körperkult found a post-grunge niche with elements of electronic experimentalism. The result was that all four musicians of eXopilots found themselves immersed in new and different genres to the once greatly perceived grunge (nb - once labelled 'gunk' and 'prunge' by CDK itself). Matt, who has always consistently composed, decided to write some new material in the latter part of 2007 and having introduced the idea to the other three, they decided to form eXopilots. The result is what you hear on this page - we hope you like it!
