About Me

For the ones amongst you that want to see and hear more, you can go to my main site at "hbbeverly.com" and discover even more info, and listen to six song samples that are different than the ones heard here........................................................ ... And, for the hardcore Parrott Head fans out there, there is a new site called www.meetthephlockers.com/hbbeverly, and I have a site on there as well, with perhaps a couple of songs that are different than the one's here on myspace or at hbbeverly.com, and they're in their entirety ............................................................ ... A good friend I made friends with after moving here to Myrtle a few years ago, is a talented singer/songwriter here on the Grand Strand by the name of Wendell Matthews, and he was kind enough on the recommendation of a mutual friend, to ask me as an unknown harp player, to come by and record a track on his CD, without even knowing what I sounded like! You can order that session, and many more fine songs that he wrote on his website here at www.myspace.com/wendellmatthews ........................................................ For those of you who are looking for a seriously well crafted, and set up electric guitar, another good friend I have here on myspace handles those duties in the form of one awesomely talented Rick Mariner. He calls his line of guitars Haywire, and his site can be found at the top of my friends list. Trust me, his craftsmanship is breath taking .......................................... ................ In the jukebox department above, "BMW Girls" is a song I wrote with Webb Wilder in mind back in 1988, but I think it would've made a great Jerry Lee Lewis cut too, so that's what I'm channeling when you listen to it .................................................. "Big Fish (In A Little Pond)" came from conversations I had with old friend David Loving, while flirting with the Nashville scene back in the early 90s. After seeing which way the wind was blowing in Guitar Town, I realized that I probably would be better off as a big fish in a little pond in the Tri-Cities area, rather than be a little fish in a really big pond in Nashville............................................... "Hillbilly" is another one of those autobiographical ditties that is first about my Dad, then my first ex-wife, and finally a word of advice to my fellow listeners. In each of these two songs I was feeling the pressure from performing live on PBS-TV for the first time with "Hillbilly", and on WETS-FM radio in Johnson City, TN. with "Big Fish", and I forgot one line in each song. So if you hear something that doesn't quite make sense, like a repeat of a phrase, that's where I blew it, Doh! But, I thought these two live performances to be historically significant because the band played so solid behind me, the nervous Nelly. All members of those two seperate bands "The Road Scholars", and "3/4 Time" are in my photos section that can be found on this site. And, I might add that those two performances were ten years apart. Those guys were the best band I ever had .................................................... "Beautiful Day" is a flirty come-on song that I wrote back in 2001, after the CD came out, and it was meant to show the direction in which my writing was going to go in. Sunny, and upbeat, as opposed to dark and depressing. It was recorded in a little studio in Elizabethton, TN., called Note-orious Studios, owned and operated by Tony Rominger, approximately 6 years ago, with members of my own band at that point, called "3/4 Time". On drums was my old friend David Williams, and on Bass guitar was the amazingly solid and agile Bob Sarver, who I miss like a right arm.... Hey, call me Bob! Background vocals were by Amy Vance, Bob, and David. Tony Rominger played harp, and recorded the whole glorious mess. This song has now been re-recorded for the upcomng CD in summer of 2008 ............................... Do you or your friends have plans for corporate or private functions? I'll travel anywhere, if scheduling allows, and the money is right for the distance, fuel, and crashing arrangements. Leave me a message with all the pertinent details of time and location, either here on myspace, or at "[email protected]" and I'll get back to you ASAP ............................................................ .............. On July 1, of 2007 I finally realized one of four musical dreams that I had for myself, in getting the legendary "FINGERS" TAYLOR from JIMMY BUFFETT'S CORAL REEFER BAND to sit in, and play the beautiful "Coast Of Marseille" with me at a show he was doing with KD Moore. Pictures of that collaboration can also be found on this site ........................................................... Hope to see you all somewhere soon. Be sure to come up and say Hello, OK? .... Love, Peace, and Chicken Grease, "HB"

Band Members: Mostly, it's just been me. Some say that's all I need. But - on special occasions when conditions are right, I like to pull out my former brother of the road ..boards of all kinds, the fabulous Mr. Don Eanes, who is an exceptional musician is his own right. Don appears nationally in theaters and both Disney locations, with Elvis impersonator Scott Burns. For samples of this awesome show, type in Scott's name on youtube.com. Don and I spent 12 years playing every kind of venue imaginable in VA/TN and the Carolinas. He was instrumental in arranging, and played on my first CD, "H.B. Beverly & Friends" on all but one cut, and will be contributing to my upcoming CD on RUNAWAY BAY RECORDS as well.

..
Influences: My earliest influence was Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis. Next was Bruce Springsteen. Jim Croce and John Denver also had big impacts on my singing/playing styles dduring the 70's and 80's.............. Next was the ultimate toastmaster Jimmy Buffett, and the great John Prine. If I had a dime for every song I've sung by those two guys, I could have a 20 room house with a 4 car garage to live in right now. But in the words of Jimmy himself, "I pissed it away so fast!" ................... Jerry Jeff Walker also had a big influence on my writing during the 90's. The great Rodney Crowell, Todd Snider, and Steve Earle have also influenced some of my latest compositions. In other words, I'm old school ............................................................ ........................................ Now for a treat, or a laugh, depending on how you look at it! The folllowing is a clip that was posted by a Bass player from one of my old bands back in the 90's, Mr. Charlie Aesque. That's Charlie nearest to the camera in this video, and he also plays in the Kingsport, TN Symphony Orchestra..... For me, this is mostly embarrassing, as I was fired from the band "for moving around too much on the stage to be an R&B/Blues singer." I didn't agree at the time, but now I see my greeness coming through - loud and clear! But, it does show me at a time when I was doing everything from John Prine and Jimmy Buffet to Albert King, and The Allman Brothers. It should be said here that The Stratocats were one whale of a Blues band - the best in my own biased opinion. Each one of the them were awesome players in their own right. Enjoy! ..............................................Description: Rare footage of Blues band, The Stratocats performing "Must be the Devil" from October 1992. Recorded live at Viking Hall in Bristol, Tennessee. Featuring singer H.B. Beverly, Charlie Aesque on Fender Bass, K. D. Forsha / Keyboards, Gary Redden / Guitar, and the late Terry Baker on drums. Thanks, Charlie! The Stratocats LIVE at Viking Hall 1992 RARE
