ADS (1980 - 1984)

About Me

ADS is a Danish punk band that was founded in 1980. Founding members were Michael "Funder" Thorlacius, Stig Pedersen, Søren "Slys" Johnsen, Karsten Hjarsø (both on electric guitar, later to join UCR) and Peter Top-Jensen. Stig Pedersen left the band in 1982 and was briefly replaced with Martin Krogh (who previously had played in Martin and the Martians and was later to play in Martin Hall's Front and Fantasy). Martin Krogh was replaced again with Lars Bo “Tolle” Tolstoy Jacobsen in 1983, same year they recruited Mads Nordheim ..boards. Lars Top-Jensen had replaced Søren "Slys" Johnsen and Karsten Hjarsø. While ADS was and is mostly known for their dashing good (and punky/gothic) looks, their music was not to be trifled with. Creating a sound that is both dystopic and dark while still having the youthful soul of punk rock, they left a mark in Danish punk rock history. ADS made their live debut the 14th of September 1980, where they played with Ballet Mecanique. The band has also played with acts such as UK Subs, Nick Cave, Dead Kennedys, City-X, The Zero Point, Before, End of Your Garden, Electric Deads. They played the show with Nick Cave the 23rd of May 1984. The band only appeared on two releases, the 1982 split 7" with City-X and the 1982 Nosferatu Festival LP. Neither is easy to come by! Before recording "Waiting for the War" for the split 7" with City-X, they recorded a three track demo, also! Has to be somewhere.

IMPORTANT:

Songs "uncovered" until now are "Waiting for the War", "When I Was Younger", "Unknown" (as we call it), "I Wish I Wasn't Me", "ADS Yourself" and "I Have No Fun at Channel One"!

This is a band profile made by a fan for fans, hoping to spark some new life into this band. Thanks go out to the people who helped me dig out information and pictures and showed a lot of interest: Fritz, Sumez, Mathias, Stine, Andreas, Lange Jan. I hope I didn't forget any! - Ole ([email protected])
