I am Johnny Appleseed, LLC. "Save Money. Save the world".®
My mission: "to shift traditional consumer, business, and governmental living practices towards more energy efficient and sustainable ones."
Originally, I had no idea what I was doing or what I was getting myself into! All I knew was that I liked to plant trees and recycle soda cans. Then one night, while I was picking up some bottles and trash strewn about at a party in Hollywood, a friend said to me, "You know who you are Shawn-Caulin Young... you are like the modern day Johnny Appleseed!"
I stopped, laughed, and said, "what did you just say to me?"
She simply replied, "I said...you are like that guy...Johnny Appleseed... you know... cuz' you care about the environment and those around you..."
Now, I must admit that that comment left me a little dumbfounded. I probably stood there, staring at Grace for what I swear had to have been at least five minutes, until it hit me... that is what I am suppose to be doing... I am supposed to be saving the world!
You see, I could have easily laughed her funny comment off, but instead it ignited this insatiable passion within me. I began to do research the very next day, and learn everything I could about the famous folk legend. What I discovered was that both of our passions were really one in the same: to love the world and all of it inhabitants, and to teach this belief to others by way of example. So, that's what I began to do...
I changed my life completely. I began by looking myself, and my consumption levels and how inefficient they were. I then looked at how I was relating to others, the unfriendly products I was buying, the money I was throwing away, the unkind words I was saying, the programs I was watching, the friends I was spending time with, etc.
I then asked to myself, what would that cool guy Johnny Appleseed have done? The answer: THE OPPOSITE! So, you guessed it, that's what I proceeded to do ... I proceeded to break all my learned patterns and ingrained habits. It was then that I decided to change direction, and people quickly noticed that change too. So, I began to teach them, (celebrities, friends, family, etc.) about the green living practices that I was adhering to, and what it means to me to be "eco-conscious". And that's when I saw something REMARKABLE begin to happen...
Those little "seeds of change" (i.e. Being Green, Living Green, and Making Green ®) were not only growing within me, but within my family, friends and eventual "clients". They all started becoming aware of their daily actions/routines, and how they not only effected themselves and their pocket books, but the environment/world as a whole. They all began to save money...some, tons of it! Some even cut their energy costs in half! SOME even began to act kinder towards others, and feel healthier! It was so awesome!
Who knew telling someone to change a light bulb could do so much... LOL
And that my friends is the story behind I Am Johnny Appleseed.
