Nappy Cherry

Disco was king and top forty bands ruled the dance clubs imitating music made popular by the commercial artist of that day. On any given night, one could go to a club and hear the music of a hit artist being played by talented musicians putting their own spin on a tune for forty dollars a night and a beer tab! You rarely heard any original music being played or viewed an original stage show.

During that time four musicians met in a small apartment in South Central Los Angeles and decided they wanted to do something different. They wanted to rock! They set about writing the music and creating the style that would set them apart from the rest of the pack. With their multi-colored hair styles and space age garb, along with a play list of original songs from the sarcastic to the sublime, they started playing clubs and doing concerts.

A friend of the band, Kelly Minter, who went on to be a successful actress and director, invited them to shoot their video at her alma mater, Pasadena City College. It was there that the four original members, Cherry, Solaar, Space and Ava created their moment in time and space.
