About Me

Paul Divjak, a Vienna based writer & artist started off in the mid-1980s producing Super-8 films combining experimental footage with soundtracks from bands like Crime & the City Solution, Epic Soundtracks and Depeche Mode. As an independent film and video maker he then produced short films shown at international festivals like Film Festival Jerusalem, Int. Short Film & New Media Festival Austin, Texas, New York Underground Film Festival, Int. Nouveau Cinéma Montréal, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Helsinki Media Art Festival & Filmfestival Rotterdam AO.In 1993 he began exploring the field of art, doing film/video/sound installations. Since then his artwork has appeared at Kunsthalle Wien, Zachenta Gallery Warszaw, Fotohof, Salzburg, Centre for Contemporary Art, Belgrade AO venues. Divjaks friendship with a painter who turned into a writer got him into writing, too. In 1998 his novel "eisenbirne" was published. From then on writing became more and more essential. Two books, "lichtstunden" and "schattenfuge," were published within the following couple of years, and his first play "sofa surfen" was shown at Viennas Burgtheater, Casino.During a group show in Germany he is mixed up with a fellow artist by a Berlin based label head and therefore invited to complete his first 7" vinyl. His living room is converted into a micro studio where he explores with tools and tracks for the next several months. Exactly one year later, "so fine" is released in the autumn of 2001. This little piece of music was the beginning of his electronical soundworking career. Since Divjak had classical piano lessons when he was a teenager and played drums in a band in school, the field of music was one with personal roots. In 2005 he released the album "a glimmer of hope," produced by Hans Platzgumer (H.P. Zinker, Queens of Japan, Convertible AO); and in 2006, the EP "rauschgold" featuring b.fleischmann (Duo 505, The Year of AO) followed on Konkord. Recently his novel "Kinsky" and his "st. moritz" ep, which was originally recorded at the Palace Hotel in St. Moritz, were released. Discography: Aural Siesta, konkord, 2008 --- st.moritz ep, konkord, 2007 --- rauschgold, konkord, 2006 --- a glimmer of hope, ep, konkord, 2005 " --- "in the meme pool". hearings, transacoustic research, 2003 --- so fine/as if, 7", suemi/berlin, 2001 paul divjak@
