Ponds, fountains and other types of water gardens have a demonstrated calming effect and even act as natural air filters. PuraVida Aquatic does our best to help people enjoy water in their lives. Our primarily interest is in providing non-chemical solutions for water quality issues in aquariums, ponds, and fountains.
We advocate non-chemical methods of water quality control, particularly in outdoor environments. Many animals may drink from the pond, and very little is known about the long term health effects of algaecides and other water “conditioners†on them .
A few examples of animals that may drink from your water feature:
- Beneficial Insects -- such as honey bees (Bees use water to cool their hive in the summer (just like we sweat) and a colony can drink 10gal of water a day). Urban wildlife--squirrels and many other small animals. Birds--lots of birds : Migratory and local birds , Doves, Robins, and Humming birds. Hummingbirds love to drink from waterfalls while in flight. Your own wildlife--cats, dogs and other pets seem to find a pond far more enjoyable to drink from than a water bowl.
Please don't poison the wildlife in your area. If you own a pond, use natural methods to control algae or other "water condition" problems. Even be careful of water conditioners that "remove" chlorine.
