For Jordan Herrera making music has always been second nature. He started playing the violin at the age of 3. Although, when first beginning the violin, it felt like just another chore for him to do, but soon the love of playing an instrument grew, and further led to the musician he is today.
While getting lessons privately for violin, in school he also put his musical abilities to show. Playing in his school’s orchestras from the age of twelve to eighteen, he quickly fell in love with melodies and harmonies. By the age of fourteen he had started a band with a close friend. That band, which was called Mourning Star, was were Jordan really got to play around with creating music, from writing lyrics to instrument parts. He soon realized that this is what he was meant to do, that music was his craft.
Mourning Star, soon grew to be a popular band in his hometown area. They played in several shows and performed and won many “battle of the bands†in the Lawton, Oklahoma surrounding area. While playing in Mourning Star, Jordan got a taste of what is was like to record in a studio with his band’s demo. Jordan quickly felt that the studio was his second home. During this time, Jordan wrote “Nothing But Scarsâ€.
Soon after the Mourning Star band mates went their separate ways, Jordan started a solo project called For Her Eyes Only. With this solo project he got to experiment with different sounds and styles. During this experimentation stage, Jordan started creating backtracks to use in his songs. A good example of this ‘experiment’ is the song “Burnâ€.
While working with For Her Eyes Only, Jordan also started another band, How Rumors Start, with an old band mate from Mourning Star. The band’s musical style was far different from anything Jordan had previously done, which was challenging for him at first. In this band he created more challenging instrument parts, more emotional lyrics, and more diverse vocal parts. It did not take long for this band to be another success story for Jordan to tell. This challenge is greatly appreciated in the helping of Jordan’s talents to continue to grow and vary.
After closing the chapter on How Rumors Start, Jordan could not close the chapter on creating music completely. There he started The Notes We Speak. With a fresh take on music, Jordan really got to express himself. He took songs previously written by himself and gave them a new, fresher twist, while continuing to write more songs. Jordan hopes to take The Notes We Speak to a higher level and share his music with anyone that has open ears. He feels music is what he is meant to do, that he was given this talent to help others through music.
For Jordan of The Notes We Speak music is no longer a chore, but his true calling.
