About Me

Frequently Asked Questions

Every Bosphorus Cymbal is hand-made in Istanbul, Turkey.
Does Bosphorus make cymbals for any other company or market cymbals under any other name?

Originally there were two types of Ferit cymbals, the Ferit Antique and the Ferit Turk. The name Ferit was eventually dropped and now the series are simply called Antique and Turk.
Were the weight designations changed?
Yes. Originally the rides were offered in Original, Light and Medium. This was changed to Thin, Medium Thin, and Medium. Hats were offered in Regular, Light and Medium. This was changed to Dark, Crisp, and Bright. Only the names were changed, not the weights.
What do the markings on the bottom of the cymbal bell mean?
Each cymbal is weighed in grams, noted and signed on the bottom.
Why does a new Bosphorus Cymbal sometime show slight aberrations in coloration or lathing, as well as stick marks or finger prints?
Each cymbal is made entirely by hand, not on an assembly line. No protective coatings are added, except for the Gold Series, which are buffed with a wax. Each cymbal is played in our vault when it is selected for a dealer or an artist.
