This site is my tribute to a very wonderful man. Uncle Wally was the sweetest soul you could ever meet. He always had a smile on his face and a positive outlook on life. When I was a kid, he would come to our house and always had gum in his pocket for us and the warmest of hugs. I remember when he formed his band The Blue Ramblers , my grandma was so excited and had a billboard put on her car and she drove around everywhere advertising for him. Every little bit of help you did for him was so appreciated by him and he never forgot anyone. It had been sometime since I saw Uncle Wally, but almost 2 years now, we lost our grandmother and her and Uncle Wally were like brother and sister. Uncle Wally came to Aunt B.B.'s house and he hadn't changed a bit. He had nothing but kind words to say, we all reminisced and drank coffee, he met new family members and acted like he knew them for years. He never excluded anyone, seems like he wanted everyone to be happy or to hear a kind word. He stayed with us for hours in our time of need and made it easier. I never heard a cross word spill over his lips, he was always upbeat and happy. I know he is still that way now and is spreading sunshine all around heaven and singing his heart out. I love you Uncle Wally and will see you again one day.
Wally Willette was born in 1929 in Bangor, Maine. He moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1950, where he lived until his passing. Here he formed his band, five years later - Roy Polk Bass / voc, Robert Polk lead / voc, and Renny Crooks drums.
Wally Willette & The Polk Brothers played very much locally and in 1958 they recorded for the FLAG label at downtown Mobile, Alabama the four cuts which are re-issued on DEE JAY JAMBOREE.
