Periklis was born in Athens in 1970 (Greece). Beginning at 1988 he studied double bass and theory of music in Athens. He attended Master classes with Thomas Martin in London and Josef Niederhammer in Vienna. Further he participated in several Greek orchestras and choirs as double bass player and singer.From 1995 to 2002 he studied composition at the University of Music and dramatic arts in Vienna. He finished his studies with high honours and was awarded the academic degree of Magister Artium (class of Erich Urbanner). Since then, he holds a teaching position in the same institution for Harmony, Counterpoint and Introduction in Composition.For his works he has received prizes from the city of Vienna, the city of Graz, the Music University of Vienna, the Thüringen Philharmonic orchestra and the Austrian Office of the Federal Chancellor. The latest commissions made to him, include a work for the city of Trossingen in Germany and a work for the Ensemble modern international academy in Greece, as well as a piece for the Greek radio symphonic orchestra. Concerts in the near past included performances in East Germany (“Momentum†piece for large orchestra), in the city of Athens (“Empty chair in living-room†concert for Accordion and string orchestra), in Swiss (“Scar_guitar†for electric guitar), in Vienna (“Three Haikus†for small ensemble), in Frankfurt (“Deep|Dark|Waters†for ensemble), as well as perfomances in festivals like Wien modern, International Bach festival of Riga, Europaische Zentralbank Kulturtage etc.Perikles Liakakis lives in Vienna and is member of Ensemble on_line Vienna.
