Elizabeth McQueen--or EMQ to her friends andfans--is a firecracker of a singer who brings a smile to all that hear her big ol¹ voice come out of her little ol¹ body. Hailing from Little Rock, AR by way of Columbia, MD, Elizabeth¹s singing has been equated to hearing "Etta James and Loretta Lynn spliced in honey" and "a deft mix of classicism
and modernity." The late, great Jim Murphy, who had solo turns on her first
two CDs, was heard to have called her a "great F@#&in¹ singer!" Her time in Austin is really what has shaped her singing style to date.Arriving in the musical mecca in 2000, Elizabeth immediately gravitated to the Austin country scene cutting her teeth at a weekly gig at the Carousel Lounge which lasted over two years. It was at this smokey residency that she and her band, The Firebrands, began branching out musically into jazz, blues and finally into "roots pop." This musical road led to "The Fresh Up Club" released on her own Gravitron! Label (2003) and "Happy Doing What We¹re Doing." released on Freedom Records (2005). Since 2005, Elizabeth has been bringing her infectious enthusiasm to the legendary Western Swing band Asleep At The Wheel.
