Midian Kiem Pacquette was born in Fort de France, Martinique but moved to the island of Dominica at an early age. He grew up with his mother and father and two sisters in the southern community of Bellevue Chopin.Growing up on an island like Dominica it is almost impossible not to be influenced by the wonders of the musical world, whether it be through singing at school assemblies, church or singing along to some of the popular tunes on the radio, and Midian couldn’t help but get sucked into the euphoria of it all. It was through his involvement in the church, school choir and community based events that he discovered an innate desire to venture into this musical universe. Most Dominicans who have succeeded as musicians have had to migrate to other parts of the world to reap success from a musical career path and so initially Midian was very reluctant to pursue music professionally and ventured on simply doing music for the love of it.For the better part of his teenage years Midian lived outside of Dominica and returned home in 2005. and met up with young producer Yohann Ferrol. They started producing music together following which they released a few singles including Super Mario and D-X which took the local music scene by storm. The songs popularity caught the interest of organizers of the Cable and Wireless Creole in the Park and Midian and Yohann were challenged to put a band together hence the birth of Esclav Band of which Midian is the lead vocalist. So the Cable and Wireless Creole in the Park was the first official gig for the band and it has been no turning back since then. They later released one of the hottest Bouyon albums for 2006 and was sought after to perform at different events following the popularity of the album. The band is currently working on its second album, From Slave to Master due to be released in October 2008.Midian’s energy on stage is unsurpassed by many on the musical scene in Dominica. He loves the thrill of performing for his audience whether solo, with his band or featuring with other popular bands including Triple Kay Band and W.C.K. Band. His love for the stage and performing was also very evident while participating in the Soca Monarch competitions in Dominica. In 2007 he made his debut in the competition with ‘Show Dem’ and the following year made waves at the Windsor Park stadium with his hit song ‘Ridiculous’.Prior to the formation of the Esclav Band in 2003, Midian was featured on the ‘San Cobin’ double CD album, and did a collaborative video with other French artists. That album was produced at the Cyber Gwada studios on the island Guadeloupe. There were times when Midian felt like giving up his musical dream. Having lived in Jamaica for a while, he knew the kind of support that Jamaican musicians received but there was not much support available in Dominica. Private companies are reluctant to invest in musicians, and this can be very daunting to a young musician trying to pursue his dream, but for Midian the dream is very much alive and he will not be discouraged that easily.Presently, Midian is a Disc Jockey/Announcer/Reporter at the popular Q-95 FM Radio Station in Dominica and is the initiator and host of Q-Exposure; a show which promotes and highlights talent with major emphasis on music. Some of his featured acts include Triple Kay Band, W.C.K. Band, First Serenade Band, and international bands and artists including Destra, Beenie Man, Mr. Vegas, Carimi, and T.O.K.Again, because of his love for music it was not surprising that he gravitated to this field of work. At this time music is high on Midian's agenda and this enterprising young man is bent on pursuing his goals of a career in music He is currently working on his solo Soca album and fans can look forward to diversity, talent and a greater sense of his musical identity.
