Art, essentailly, and all that comes from it. Art, Literature, Music, Comic Books, Movies. And hot chicks. Most anything that doesn't suck. Unless its a hot chick, then it's ok if they suck.
Someone, any one, no one. The guy who made this video:
Super profane mario bros. Videoclip 29
Also, every band in my top friends is someone you should listen to. So, do it.
Primus, Clutch, Jimi Hendrix, Lamb Of God, tool, Pink Floyd, NIN, Pantera, William Elliott Whitmore, Mastodon, Neurosis, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Neurosis, Black Sabbath, Faith No More, Johnny Cash, James Brown, Scissorfight, Motorhead, The Hidden Hand, The Obsessed, Anthrax, BLS, High on Fire, Sleep, Rwake, Minsk, Seemless, Rancid, The Who, the circle jerks, NoFX, Lennon, RATM, Shadows Fall, Tomahawk, The Dresden Dolls. Frank Zappa, Nikka Costa, Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple, The Haunted. RHCP, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Social Distortion, Slayer, Soul Coughing. Most anything that is well executed and has heart. I don't exclude anything based on style or any of that crap. If it is good, it's good, if it's not, it's not. I do have a particular weakness for a female’s voice, and stoner rock/metal.
Fight Club, Frank Miller's Sin City (damn yea!!), Apocalypse Now (original and Redux, though Redux is much better), Cape Fear (Scorsese/DeNiro version), SE7EN. Ninja Scroll (possibly best anime ever) Falling Down. Full Metal Jacket, Payback, Run Ronnie Run. Oldboy. Gummo. Frank Miller's 300, Blazing Saddles. Unforgiven. Orgazmo. Cannibal the Musical. The ORIGINAL Star Wars trilogy, because the new ones are utterly and amazingly terrible (ok, ok, part three is better, and Darth Maul is still the best design in that whole series, but still). Basically all of the newer Marvel Comics movies: Spider-Man 1&2&3, X-Men 1&2&3 Last Stand Rules! HELL YEA! , the Blade series(thought part 3 was weak, but decent), DareDevil, The Punisher, FF, and, yes, Hulk. Batman Begins rocked, too. The first two Superman films, and Superman Returns, Kevin Smith's films, the Evil Dead trilogy. George Romero's Dead Quadrilogy (mostly the first three). Devil's Rejects. Early Tarentino (meaning nothing after Pulp Fiction, and fuck that guy for putting his name on many incredible foreign films he had nothing to do with making) , The first Exorcist. History of Violence, The first 2 Texas Chainsaw Massacres, the original ones. Total Recall. Waiting. Thank You for Smoking. The Aristocrats, A lot of older films, especially in the horror and kung fu genres. Recently I have been digging on The Jacket, The Machinist, High Tension and Ong-Bak. Brick. The Prestige.
The Venture Bros and South Park are so good they justify television in general. Penn and Teller's Bullshit, Daily Show, Colbert Report and The Sarah Silverman Show are up there too. I used to list all of Adult Swim first here, but its become too popular, and in trying not to be popular, its just not as good as the old SeaLab, ATHF, Home Movies, Brak Show days, though Perfect Hair Forever was incredible, mostly because it pissed off everyone just for being as stupid as most anime is. Discovery and History channels. I like the idea of Headbanger's Ball, though it generally isn‘t too good. With the exception of CSI, almost nothing on network TV. And, not matter how much I try to resist, I am getting hooked on Smallville. I am not a big Superman fan, but I cannot stop watching this show. Also a number of cancelled shows that I have on DVD, like Mr. Show, Strangers with Candy and Upright Citizen Brigade, Arrested Development and many other amazing examples of TV that got shitcanned, instead of overexposed by the mass marketing culture (yea, I am talking to you Family Guy & ATHF) Also IRON CHEF! best show ever! the american one is good, but the original one is incredible.
Anything by Hunter S. Thompson(RIP). Chuck Palahniuk or Richard Matheson. Hubert Shelby, Bret Easton Ellis, and Koji Suzuki are quite good as well. A lot of true crime and history and such. Mainly Horror and darker themed work. Enjoying what I have read of Jeff Long's stuff. I like a good horror novel as well, Bently Little, Edward Lee, Brian Keene. Jim Butcher's Dresden Files is pretty awesome, I've read them all in the last 3 months, good stuff. And comics, Lots of Comics. Gotta love the comics. If you are not aware, comic books are the most pure and creative form of entertainment currently available en mass. If you don't believe me, shoot me an email and we can debate it, then I'll kindly accept your apology.
Batman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Marv from Sin City, Daredevil, oh wait, I get what question now, the same list with my Grandfather, the guys from Primus, Clutch and Mastodon, Alex Grey, Frank Miller, Grant Morrison, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy (say what you will about him these days, he helped create the Metal genre and then got more popular with his solo stuff, doing a shit load of drugs the whole time) , Lemmy (He is God after all) and Ron Jeremy.
