In 2008 three talented music lovers began to discuss putting together a band. The aim was to reflect contemporary life; ordinary, everyday adventures told by characters we all know. It had to be forward thinking, musically diverse, lyrically intelligent and always entertaining. The project came to life and soon conceived a collection of original, electronic pop music of a quality rarely heard. Everything clicked into place and What Jane Did Next emerged with a bow and a wink…
The voice and the words belong to Ben Adams, a talented performer who’s been on the rollercoaster and grew tired of being told to hold tight and keep his hands in the car. As a member of boyband A1 he enjoyed huge success, writing two UK no.1 singles and touring the world. Now he's grown up, as a person and a performer, sharing touching personal insights and showing a vulnerability that belies the cheeky, streetwise persona.
The chronicles of modern life unfold against a backdrop of modern music to match, provided by Steve Smart and Nick W. Steve sealed his reputation for cutting edge musical tastes as both a producer and the DJ that provides the soundtrack for Friday and Saturday nights on the legendary KISS FM radio network. Nick Woolfson provides studio skills second to none and a history of musical gems. What Jane Did Next has undisputed pedigree.
But this isn’t about pedigree; it’s about urban tales set to shimmering pop music with a digital twist. From the irreverent dismantling of a relationship in ‘I Spy’, to the heartfelt vulnerability of ‘Drink Talking’, these are songs that speak of familiar situations, delivered with a sprinkling of wry humour. We all know the cheeky geezer from ‘Suicide’ and always suspected he had a soft side, revealed in ‘The Best Thing’. The comic fetishism of ‘Big Girls’ is balanced against the twisted, drug-fuelled darkness of 'Magic Number' and the reality of regret shown in ‘Sweden’....the songs keep coming with a glint in their eye as they give pop music a well needed electronic slap.
Streetwise lyrical insight delivering everyday tales in style and perfectly constructed, hook-laden tunes you simply can’t let go. In case you were wondering, this is exactly What Jane Did Next.
