Christian the Lion - the full story
In loving memory of EmmittEmmitt, the dearly loved clinic cat of the Ark Animal Hospital died September 28, 2008 after a short struggle with pancreatic failure.Emmitt was literally born in a barn in January of 1996. The splotch of brown on his face reminded our technician of Emmett the Clown, hence Emmitt’s name. He came to live at the Ark when he was three months old.It has been reported that Emmitt went through an “ugly duckling” stage as a gangly adolescent. This is hard to believe as our Emmitt was so handsome! Recently Emmitt set a fashion trend with his lion-cut hair do. His body was shaved but he had a mane and a poof on the end of his long expressive tail.Emmitt was known for many things. He loved to bolt out the front door to the chorus of, “Your cat’s outside!” Sometimes he would venture behind the building. He proudly returned with a tiny shrew on one of these journeys. Most often he would sit at the windows and peer back in the clinic.Emmitt chewed open many bags of food, thus the “Emmitt guards” to thwart him. Customers benefited from the “Emmitt Damage” discount. He also loved to come to any one of us, get our attention, and then RACE toward his food dish. Often it still contained some kibble. Sometimes he would even walk through water in the back kennels to insist, “I am hungry!”Emmitt adored sun naps on the front benches. Sometimes he curled up, but often he would sprawl out-legs above his head and belly open- to catch every ray. He also loved to drink from the running faucet. Emmitt would stick his head under the flowing water as if he were in the shower. He loved his bubbler and the way ice cubes bobbed in it.Emmitt was a very social and gracious cat. He loved kittens and would give them a tongue bath. He would often lie on the front counter to greet clients. He never complained when we woke him up from a nap to visit his public. He dangled his tail off the edge to swish our computer screen. When it was Candy Bar Sale time for ECCHA, Emmitt often slept with his cheek in the corner of the candy box.Emmitt was known by many and loved by all. He will be remembered for his beautiful blue eyes, his sunny personality, his quickness to purr, and his knack of literally hugging our necks as he rubbed our faces.Emmitt will be sorely missed by the staff of the Ark, his many admirers, and his best feline friend Mr. Roly Poly.We love you, Emmitt. We look forward to seeing you again in the Here After.
