Josh Engel has been singing since he was three. Performing on stage since he was fifteen in many karaoke contests and talent searches. He believes everything happens for a reason, and that winning this Yahoo contest is a pivotal point in his life. Singing has always been part of his routine, country music mostly. In college he ended up meeting one of his best friends who introduced Josh to some of his great friends. One of which was the bass player Ryan Ashby
for the rock band, "Marcellus." They happened to be looking for a new lead singer, so Josh tried out. Long story short, he played shows and wrote music for them for over 2 years until they all went their separate ways. Josh then worked in retail hell for 5 years until he'd had enough and decided to give singing one last shot. With a little money in savings, Josh quit his job and began searching for places to sing. Only through God's favor he found the Bix.yahoo.com website one night and entered the "Road to Nashville" contest for the heck of it. That brings him here...what's next? Just taking one day at a time, seeing where God's will has to take him. Josh says, "I really appreciate the friends and fans I have made in the Bix community and sincerely hope to make many more."
Josh Engel is the winner of the Bix.Yahoo! and Capitol Records "Road to Nashville" Contest held on August 22, 2007 in the country music capital; Nashville, Tennessee. Josh Engel, from Grand Prairie, Texas placed ninth out of the top 10 but ultimately won the "Road to Nashville" Contest; beating out over 1300+ other contestants vying for a spot in the top 10. A quick listen to his round one entries Old Enough To Know Better, All My Ex's Live In Texas, and Smoke Rings In The Dark reveals a very smooth, very controlled country voice. Singing since the age of three, Josh has sung other genres of music, but country is where he is at home. Earning him his spot in the top 10, and a trip to Nashville for the finals, was his performance via WebCam of Trace Adkins' Every Light in the House is On. The finals of the Yahoo! Bix Capitol Records "Road to Nashville" Contest was packed with talent and the live performances were excellent. There were great singers, but none proved better than Josh Engel. He sang "Red Dirt Road" in the finals, and was asked to come back for another encore performance along with Elisha Jordan and Chris Potter. Josh performed "Making Memories of Us" for his encore. The judges, a panel of the best in the business, included A&R folks, the President of Capitol Records Nashville Mike Duncan, the Vice President Larry Willoughby, and recording artist Jamie O'Neal. After a standing ovation for Josh's encore performance, the judges quickly made their decision. Josh was the winner.
