Band Members: Llanelli's The Mams write accessible, dancey pop songs about carousing,
heartbreak, flirting and mortality. A combination that certainly got
BBC
Radio Wales' Adam Walton
in a
lather./"The best Welsh pop record of recent times. That's genius! I smiled so
big my ears cracked... Superb pop, aceness. It doesn't sound like it
comes from this, or most other eras. They take all these bits and
pieces
of music's uncool past and put it together in such a jolly fashion." /On record The Mams are shiny and sophisticated. Live they combine thos
elements with a powerful and dancey rock sound. They write the sort of
lyrics that you can sing along to, even though you've never heard the
song before, and the beats are guaranteed to get feet tapping at least.
The Carmarthen Journal described their performance at 2007 Celtic Blue
Rock Festival thus:/'The Mams whipped the audience into a disco frenzy. After taking the
stage by storm more than a few festival goers wanted to know more about
the band who provided an uplifting party atmosphere.'/The Mams' musical jolliness and ace popness was not without a
back-story. "I met AT Sharpe in the summer of 2006 and had a few things
in common with him," explains Jon. "We'd both had records played by
John
Peel, we still had our own hair and teeth, and we were un-tethered by
careers, children or wives, or indeed any responsibilities whatsoever.
So we set about writing a pop soundtrack to their shallow yet
pleasureable lives."Less than six months later their debut album, Wam Bam! was recorded.
"It's a glorious row packed with poignancy, joy, handclaps, energy,
trumpets, guitar solos, whistling, grooves, string synth stabs, slap
bass and some very high singing indeed."The album was self-released on their own Gonzo/Muso label in March
2007,
and in the US in October. Plans for this year include several festival
appearances and a new single 'Dark Side Of The Disco' out in March.
