About Me

Welcome, I'm Fieke van den Hurk, and this is my personal MySpace page. I'm a musician and a composer, but also still a student.. I play the accordeon, piano and synthesizers. You can find information about me and listen to songs I composed and/or played. Below you can read a more detailed description of my musical life.

I started playing the accordeon at the local music school when I was 7. A year later, my mother bought a piano, on which I learned myself to play. When I was 13, I decided to take piano lessons also, so I would learn to play better. With my accordeon I was playing in a youth orchestra, and after that in a more professional orchestra, named Torkest . I still rehearse with this orchestra every Friday-evening and we even make several concert tours abroad. I've been to Sweden, Slovakia, Switserland and Russia already.

At the age of 13 I also started to play synthesizers in my first band, which wasn't a big success. But ambitious as I was, I decided to found a new band, and after some changes in line-up, Asthenia arose out of this. Our genre was best described as symphonic gothic-metal. Next to keyboardplayer, I was the main composer and with this band I recorded a demo CD in 2007 called 'The Portal'. We had some great gigs as support act for bands such as Delain and Epica, but in the summer of 2008 we decided to split up because of various reasons.

I the year 2008 I also joined Cesair , a band playing acoustic celtic music. I play the accordeon in this band. We play (slightly adjusted versions of) existent celtic songs, but we also started to compose our own tunes. Cesair is something totally different from everything I've done so far, and that's one of the reasons why I really enjoy playing with this band. Our first gig was a big success, but because of our very busy personal lives at the moment, we're taking it slow.
This year I started the education in Music Production & Performance on the School of Arts faculty called Art, Media and Technology. I also plan to found a new symphonic-metal band again, but this is still in a very early phase...

Next to all of this, I like to compose songs with my accordeon, synthesizers and computer. Some are assignments for my education, some have no particular purpose... except my musical expression perhaps.
