About Me

Delaney R. Ragland is a multi-talented percussionist / conga player who has had over twenty years of experience playing music. Delaney began playing hand drums at the tender age of nine at his church in his native city of Detroit, MI where his mother and grandmother had been members in the choir and had traveled around the state putting on gospel stage plays, he quickly learned to adapt to the high energy music that he had been hearing. While playing at church at the age of fourteen he was asked by gospel recording artist Wanda Nero Butler to play at a concert at Hart Plaza with he eagerly agreed to. This would be the start of a five year position in Mrs. Butler's band, he also had the pleasure to work with the who's who of Detroit's music scene. In recent years he has studied Afro-Cuban rhythms and techniques with James Bongo and has been playing jazz, rock, r&b and gospel on an regular basis. He has performed with many of Detroit's top local artists such as Acoustic Stories (rock band), 1 oh 1 (soul and r&b) and Angel A ( Latin and neo-soul) to name a few. Delaney has also opened up for recording artist such as Little Brother, The Williams Brothers, Con Funk Shun, M.C. Hammer and has played with Grammy nominated artist Tonex and Grammy award winning group Salt & Peppa. Currently Delaney is a member of the band G-Squad who handles all the live music for Vina Mills and Live the music group as well as many of the music industry's top selling recording artist. Delaney is truly the definition of a versatile musician, keep your eye's and ear's open because he will be coming to a city near you.
