JUNGLE CITY Where do we find strength and affirmation in the midst of tragedy and negativity? Jungle City is the exploration of family, brotherhood, hope, and redemption. It begins with the story of two friends, raised in different households, but burdened by the same problem – a burning desire to escape the certain death calling to them on a daily basis. Chris Thompson, a fifteen year old boy wakes up everyday to a house, but no home. He is weighed down by the difficulties of raising two young siblings, Crystal and Kevin, while his all but physically absent mother, Doreen, rots away in a back bedroom addicted to crack cocaine. His best friend, Jacob Bradley, a star football player, struggles to live up to the expectations of everyone around him especially his father figure, Coach Brooks. With his real father deceased, his mother Brenda is fighting against immeasurable odds to maintain steady employment, a stable environment and sufficient healthcare for her ailing son, Antwain. Can he survive his battle with Sickle Cell Anemia and avoid the untimely end that this disease brought to his father? Evelyn and Gregg Lofton are a young couple trying to build a family of their own. However, they have been plagued with infertility. As they work towards having children, complications of this predicament takes their toll on the stability and love this husband and wife battle to hang onto. Questions of loyalty arise as boundaries are tested and the bond of love is stretched. The drama thickens when Chris is pressures into working for Terrence, Jungle City’s most notorious drug dealer, in order to pay off a debt. The grips of negativity take hold of Chris’s life. Jacob, through an unfettered desire to rescue his best friend, involves himself in what proves an ill-fated journey into Jungle City’s darkest corners.
