About Me

how i got here: i grew up in a snow globe. my mind collapsed the moment i left for the real world. this is where my chronicle begins...
anyway, the poetry of train stations. like a forever mildy-drunk heart, heavy with happiness and sentiment and wisdom-in-progress, you can never just be normal in a train station. even if you are not the one getting on the train.
anyway, you are contemplating the poetry of train stations when a strange thing happens. a tall man like a gorey sketch with snow for hair leans over as if he is trying better to hear the musings of his invisible companion and with a silent push from gravity goes tumbling down onto the cold marble platform. everything turns over a line like you have just entered a movie and have encountered the protagonist (you are of course an extra). the world opens like your mind has just found a door and whereas before there was nothing to think about or write about now there is everything. but it is too large a task to know where to start, like in the phantom tollbooth trying to move a mountain of pebbles with a pair of tweezers, and so the meaning is all lost in the end anyway.
your heart is racing--from the cold or from this opening, you do not know.
it is all settling now, like a snowglobe.

My Interests

chasing the world, making myself happy, old vans, highway 50, real democracy, losing myself in books, finding myself in music, doing everything mediocrely over doing one thing well (the modern renaissance woman)

I'd like to meet:

my soulmate(s)

Music:

anything with cowbell or fuzz guitar. right now i'm also newly obsessed with electrelane and re-obsessed with air. neil young is my hero but i have a super-soft spot for donovan. he wrote my cat's theme song. and if i was trapped on a desert island equipped with a stereo and only one cassette to play on it, and of course, deep amusement at my own cliched situation, it would probably be tom petty. also: devendra banhart, wolf parade, jason molina, will oldham, jesse sykes.

Movies:

all about eve, arizona dream, midnight cowboy, august 32nd on earth, the adventures of baron munchausen, where the green ants dream

Television:

deadwood! oh, how i yearn for the lawless old west...

Books:

hunter thompson, kurt vonnegut, nikos kazantzakis, bukowski, marquez, infinite jest, kundera, grace paley, beth steidle, and, okay, i hated siddhartha but i loved steppenwolf

Heroes:

hunter thompson, my father, homer simpson, neil young, john lennon, hoyt axton, john yankee, john stewart, patti smith, robert fisk, jennifer saunders, cynthia mckinney, dominique pinon, jasper, paul madonna, giulietta masina
