Raffaella Key Carasso: Director,script writer,actress.Born in Rimini (Italy), the birth place of director Federico Fellini. It was just after her encounter with the great Maestro, which happened in her childhood, that Raffaella became fond of the cinema and figurative arts. At the age of 7she started studying drama, pronounciation and acting. After graduating in Film Direction and Television Production, at the National Academy of Cinema she set the theatre aside and started collaborating with several film production companies among which Pupkin Productions for the filming of “Non pensarci” (“Don’t think about it “) by Gianni Zanasi featuring Valerio Mastandrea, Giuseppe Battiston and Caterina Murino. The film was presented at the 64th edition of Venice’s Cinema Festival (64^ Mostra del Cinema di Venezia) and then shown in cinemas from April 2008. In class at the Academy she met Simona Zanetti but it was only at the beginning of 2007, after the two girls had met again and compared one another’s experiences in the cinema, that they decided to collaborate by starting up "S&R Productions” . Their first work is the short movie “Relative Realtà” (“Relative Realities”). Simona wrote the story and was the script writer (with Raffaella)and the director, side by side with Sergio Corradetti. Raffaella was the protagonist together with the actor Mirko Ciorciari. The music was partially left in the hands of Lele Leonardi (musician, composer and currently Irene Grandi’s guitarist), and partially those of composer Fabio Vetro. The short movie took part in the “ IL CORTO - FESTA INTERNAZIONALE di ROMA 2007”(“THE INTERNATIONAL SHORT -MOVIE FESTIVAL IN ROME) competition and was selected, together with another 200 out of some1,300, to be shown during the 10 day event. The Roman kermesse was not over yet and the two girls were already working on a new project. They decided- however- to remix their cards and reconsider roles. Simona abandoned the direction to dedicate herself to the creation of stories and the developing of scripts. Raffaella set aside acting, and stood behind the camera taking care of the directing and supporting Simona in screen and scenario writing. Simona pulled a story - written six years before - out of a drawer and handed it over to Raffaella. In one night the script was written, the locations were singled out, actors and music were chosen. The production was started and after three months the short movie "Commedia Noir" (“Noir comedy”) was filmed. The particularity in this short movie lies in the fact that it has no lines. The story is told entirely in music (by the Io?Drama), with the unquestionable skills of actors Valentina Aratri (protagonist of "Taglia e cuci"("Cut and Sew"), "Quo vadis baby?", “Voglio solo la luna”(“I just want the moon”), “Come se”(“As if”), “Capri”, “Guanti gialli”( Yellow gloves), “Elena”, “Rosa di rose”(“A rose among roses”), “Il tram”(“The tram”), “Nascerà in Italia”(“It’ll be born in Italy”), “Ti regalo un sogno”(“I’ll give you a dream as a gift”), “Attraverso lo specchio”(“Through the mirror”), “Le vestali”(“ The vestal virgins”), “Essere Brando”(“Being Brando”) and “Studiare”(“Studying”); by Fabrizio Pollio (he himself is the singer of Io?Drama), by the locations (1/3 of the scenes were filmed in a former 18th Century powder magazine) and above all by the subject. Being a surreal one, it “suited” this particular stylistic choice perfectly. The post production was over at last. The two girls took care of the editing personally, side by side with Maurizio Zironi and Vincenzo Galeone from Slow Motion Videoproductions. There is total discretion regarding the destiny of this short movie. The next commitment in the cinema will be the developing of the story and the script writing of a psychological thriller which Simona and Raffaella are already working on. Given the complexity of the story, the film is most likely to be produced entirely in the United States. Parallel to the thriller is the production of a new short movie with the title "Proprio matte!"(“Just crazy!”). Filming has just come to an end and the work has now reached post production. It is a comedy, a very different genre from the two previous works. Simona is the story and the script writer. Raffaella is the director and co-protagonist with Valentina Aratri and Lisa Kant.Raffaella has recently been busy working on her first “love": the theatre. She was part of the artistic cast in Puccini’s "La Bohéme" under the direction of Ivan Stefanutti. It was an intense December, with lots of rehearsals awaiting the premiere which took place on 1st January 2009 at the Auditorium Palacongressi in Rimini with a performance on 3rd January. E’ proprio dall’incontro con il grande Maestro, avvenuto da bambina, che Raffaella comincia ad appassionarsi al cinema ed alle arti figurative. All'età di 7 anni inizia a studiare teatro, dizione e recitazione. Dopo essersi diplomata all’Accademia Nazionale del Cinema in Regia Cinematografica e Produzione Televisiva, accantona il teatro ed inizia a collaborare con diverse produzioni tra cui la Pupkin Production durante le riprese del film “Non pensarci” di Gianni Zanasi con Valerio Mastandrea, Giuseppe Battiston e Caterina Murino. Il film viene presentato alla 64^ Mostra del Cinema di Venezia. Durante gli anni di Accademia conosce Simona Zanetti ma è solo agli inizi del 2007, dopo che le due ragazze si rincontrano e si confrontano sulle rispettive esperienze cinematografiche, che decidono di iniziare a collaborare dando vita alla "S&R Production". La loro opera prima è il cortometraggio “Relative Realtà”. Simona ne è la soggettista, la sceneggiatrice (assieme a Raffaella) e la regista, affiancata da Sergio Corradetti. Raffaella ne è la protagonista assieme all’attore Mirko Ciorciari. Le musiche vengono affidate, in parte a Lele Leonardi (musicista, compositore ed attualmente chitarrista di Irene Grandi), ed in parte al compositore Fabio Vetro. Il cortometraggio entra in concorso a “ ILCORTO - FESTA INTERNAZIONALE di ROMA 2007” e viene selezionato, assieme ad altri 200 e su quasi 1300, per essere proiettato nei dieci giorni della manifestazione. La chermese romana non è ancora conclusa e le due ragazze sono già al lavoro con un nuovo progetto. Decidono però di mescolare le carte in tavola e di rivedere i ruoli fin qui assegnati. Simona abbandona la regia per dedicarsi alla creazione dei soggetti ed alla sviluppo delle sceneggiature. Raffaella accantona la recitazione, si mette dietro la macchina da presa occupandosi della regia ed affianca Simona nello sviluppo dei soggetti e nella stesura delle sceneggiature. Simona tira fuori dal cassetto un soggetto scritto sei anni prima e lo passa a Raffaella. In una notte viene scritta la sceneggiatura, vengono individuate le location, scelti gli attori e le musiche. La produzione è partita e dopo tre mesi il cortometraggio "Commedia Noir" viene girato. La particolarità di questo cortometraggio sta nel fatto che lo stesso è privo di battute. La storia viene raccontata interamente dalle musiche (curate dagli Io?Drama), dall'indiscutibile bravura degli attori Valentina Aratri (protagonista di "Taglia e cuci", "Quo vadis baby?", “Voglio solo la luna”, “Come se”, “Capri”, “Guanti gialli”, “Elena”, “Rosa di rose”, “Il tram”, “Nascerà in Italia”, “Ti regalo un sogno”, “Attraverso lo specchio”, “Le vestali”, “Essere Brando”, “Studiare”) e Fabrizio Pollio (lo stesso è anche il cantante degli Io?Drama), dalle location (1/3 delle scene sono state girate in una ex polveriera del ‘700) e soprattutto dal soggetto che, essendo un genere surreale, si è "sposato" perfettamente a questa particolare scelta stilistica. La post produzione è finalmente terminata. Le due ragazze hanno seguito personalmente il montaggio affiancate da Maurizio Zironi e Vincenzo Galeone della Slow Motion Videoproduzioni. Massimo riserbo sulle sorti del cortometraggio.. Prossimo impegno cinematografico lo sviluppo del soggetto e la stesura della sceneggiatura di un thriller psicologico sul quale Simona e Raffaella stanno già lavorando. Data la complessità del soggetto, con ogni probabilità il film verrà prodotto interamente negli Stati Uniti. Parallelamente al thriller è partita la produzione di un nuovo cortometraggio dal titolo "Proprio matte!". Le riprese sono state appena ultimate ed il lavoro è ora in post produzione. Si tratta di una commedia, genere ben diverso dai due precedenti lavori. Grazie a tutte le persone che hanno collaborato e finanziato questo progetto. Un grazie di cuore a Lele Leonardi, Maxi Gallesi, Lisa Kant, Marino Ceccarelli, Sara Grandi, Mec e a tutto lo staff tecnico..loro sanno perchè. Recentemente Raffaella è stata impegnata con il suo primo "amore": il teatro. Ha fatto parte del cast artistico ne "La Bohéme" di Puccini per la regia di Ivan Stefanutti. E' stato un dicembre colmo di prove in vista della prima che si è tenuta il 1° gennaio 2009 presso l'Auditorium Palacongressi di Rimini con replica il 3 gennaio. Un grazie a tutte le persone che hanno lavorato a questo progetto in particolare all'aiuto regista Carlo Bellamio, per la professionalità e la tanta pazienza, a Daniela Lupparelli per il lavoro fatto al "teatrino", al maestro di palco Marcello e a tutti gli attori con i quali abbiamo condiviso tanti giorni e tante serate.
