I also listen to Little Steven's Underground Garage which plays a lot of classic and contemporary garage/indie bands. That got me into groups like The Grip Weeds, Outrageous Cherry, Soundtrack Of Our Lives, The Gore Gore Girls, The Raveonettes, The Sights, The Charms, The Fuzztones, The Chocolate Watch Band, The High Dials and a whole lot more! Many of these bands can be found on my friends list so check 'em out! You don't always have to listen to Top 40 in order to hear great music!
