My name "LOUiGi" derived from the Super Mario Bros. character "Luigi." The LOU emphasizes the dedication I have to committing myself to the musical advancement of St. Louis, Missouri. The G emphasizes how I was raised in the ghettos of the Westside streets of St. Louis and how I remain a G in everything I do. Even though I make music because of my love for Hip-Hop, Pop, and R&B; I feel that I will plant many seeds in the music industry that will further me in making a stable living for myself. As you will see in the years to come, I am all about making my green (money), so it was only right for me to take up the character Luigi; a man all about green.
Growing up out of the Westside of St. Louis, I was consumed by much of the Hip-Hop culture that surrounded me. In the mid 90's, when Hip-Hop from the East and West Coasts ruled the airwaves and the South was emerging, I became fascinated with the style and gained much interest in the culture. It was until the breaking of the "Hot Boys" from Cash Money Records that really gave me an interest in getting involved in the music industry. The elaborate instrumentals of Mannie Fresh captured my attention in an incredidble way. His whole unique style automatically put him as one of my main influences. It was a sound different from the traditional samples and MPC tailored beats of the east coast and the agressive feel of the west coast style. I am all for new innovations in music and the ability of it to appeal to a wide variety of audiences. Mannie Fresh did this and so I knew it was right for me to try and carry on a legacy for myself. As a producer that is known for originality and one that is able to entertain all kinds of people.
The name "Money Klocka" originated from Spike Lee's "Clockers." In the movie, a "clocker" is a known drug dealer that makes sales around the clock. D. Scorch'd and I developed the name "Money Klocka" and it is defined as a person who makes money around the clock; making money using our music talents. We started as a rap group and later developed into a production team. I took a leave of absence from the music scene in '03 to take up sports in my high school as D. Scorch'd went on the join "The Bakery Productions" (production team behind Huey's 'Pop Lock and Drop It'.) I came back to my love of music in '04 as a solo producer but still collabed with Scorch on some occasions. There was never any animosity between us.
Now at 20, as T. "LOUiGi" Owens, I am fully committed to my music and I am not allowing anything to get in my way. Whether it be the omnipresent "Bubblegum" raps that forever linger on the radio or the little presence of originality in music, I have faith that I can make a change. A change that will influence new styles in Hip-Hop in the years to come and a change that will leave me as a legend in the game.
