As the first artist to drop from the Re-mixxx Entertainment roster, south central native Kay Low is representative of what the west coast has to offer. Just as west coast hierarchy like DJ Quik and Snoop Dogg, Kay Low’s distinctive style immediately catches the eyes and ears of everyone. Honing his skills at underground spots frequented by Daz, Kurupt and other well known lyricists has allowed him to collaborate with artists such as E-40.
With a natural ability to flow, he rhythmically recites his tales of the hood with smooth candor. His ear for music also helped compile the illustrious Re-mixxx roster as he brought most of the acts to label owner Darnell Harmon.
Growing up in the torn streets of Los Angeles, rapping was just an extra-curricular activity for the gifted street poet. “You can’t keep from getting caught up in the streets,†he explains “You’re always running from bullets, fights and police.†Losing his father to drugs, he felt being a man he could not rely on his mother for support so the streets became his only resource to provide from himself.
Kay Low’s skill and work ethic, made him first out the box. Set to release an album January 2008, the classic west coast compilation is a prime example of the talent hidden in the streets of Los Angeles. With in-house production, Kay Low set the stage for the next generation of west coast emcees. Like his music proclaims, “He’s just a gangsta that’s true to the streets,†his style is true to hip-hop because it delivers reality for everyone to feel.
