About Me

I have known Larry Hughes most of my life. It’s always been Larry and his guitar. He carried an old Stella guitar around when he was 3. He learned to play by holding his ear to his grandma’s record player and listening to the notes and then playing them. That was the start of the Larry Hughes Legacy. Music runs in his family, but they will tell you the same as I, his guitar playing is incomparable to any. By age 6 he was traveling and playing bass in a gospel group and always stood out in the crowd because of his playing. He was picked up by lots of major groups and was winning awards from the Southern Gospel Music Association for his playing. As a teenager he won national competitions and was experimenting with other instruments such as drums, keys, guitar, and horns where he was chosen as a McDonalds All-American. While attending college he took a break to attend M.I. to explore other styles like jazz and classical guitar. Larry not only wanted to play but wanted to get a true understanding of music itself. In 2005 he started playing bluegrass just for something to learn. He started on a mandolin and picked it up well and a friend challanged him on a banjo and he was up for the challenge. Adding one more style to his playing that is part of his heritage.
He has played on numerous albums in many genres and has discovered ,what he feels, is what he was sent here do, fingerstyle guitar. He is now a phenomenal musician with no limitations. Larry lists of instruments that he plays is endless but the guitar is his true love.
Larry has met some wonderful influences on his musical journey. He has also met some true friends, one which comes to mind and is phenomenal in what he does, David Wallace. David builds some of the finest guitars in all of the world! He has customized a few for Larry that you can see on his my space page. David is based out of Niota, Tennessee and you can always see his guitars online. He is a true inspiration to Larry.
Larry has music in his heart and in his blood and it truly shows. When someone has a passion as he does, well, when you hear him you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. He is undeniably one of the best guitar players that ever felt the strings beneath the fingers. Larry not only plays it he feels it, he owns it, and that is definitely a gift and talent that you will enjoy as he shares it with you.
"Larry Hughes is one of the best of the best as a very accomplished musician. Larry has been a big asset in my building guitars because I know when he says it's right there is no doubt. Larry Hughes has played my guitars since the companies inception and it really makes me proud when he requests one to be built for him. At Cliff Guitars we were excited to endorse Larry Hughes as our first endorsee. "
