Hiya, I'm Raj from the Electroqueer blog. Visit www.electroqueer.com to discover what EQ is all about.
So, about me...I grew up in a little town in Oregon with lots of cowboys and horses. Instead of playing football I was more interested in sinking my nose into a good comic book or secretly wishing I was a dancer for Madonna. It's true. My weekends were spent working in the family restaurant and endlessly driving around in my car listening to mix-tape creations of what I thought was the best music in the world.
I somehow managed to get a good scholarship to study Marketing in Providence, Rhode Island and so when I turned eighteen - I got out of dodge as they say. My university was a weird urban jungle in which seedy gay strip clubs were located next to Student Services and gay dancefloors were only but a block away from my dorm room. If this didn't facilitate coming out of the closet - I really don't know what else could.
Having graduating from university after studying abroad in London and Amsterdam, I ended up in Boston where I did a series of strange jobs including being a collections agent, managing a personal ad department for Boston's leading entertainment newspaper and even worked as an assistant manager at a trendy indie movie house. I also worked in a Speedo shop briefly. It was time to move on I thought.
All these strange jobs landed me a decent gig working in the streaming media industry which eventually sent me to London in 2000 and after all this time, I have found my spiritual home - actually a loft in East London - which I consider to be a creative and vibrant urban hotspot in this incredible city. Not turning my back on my creative ambitions, I started up the popular electronic music blog called Electroqueer in 2006 ( www.electroqueer.com ) which has not only allowed me to interview some of my favourite and well-respected musicians, but also saved me from a life of boredom and corporate burnout.
I have a wonderful Italian fiancee named Geri and a cat - named Ronnie. Life as they say, is alright, still...
