About Me
Dean McKeown and David Pickett first met in 1985, and shortly thereafter began writing together. Their first recordings were done in 1987. The duo was at this time performing the songs acoustically, with no additional accompaniment other than voice and acoustic guitar. In 1993, they became Johari’s Window, and were based in Boston, MA. They committed 14 tracks to tape during a six month period, resulting in the release of THRESHOLD, an EP which was favorably reviewed. These recordings were done with accompanying musicians, whose efforts complimented the Johari vision, and helped shaped what would become the Johari sound. (Drums, bass, keys, guitars, vocals). In fact, 5 of the songs appearing on their debut album VICE NEEDS VIRTUE are from performances done between 1993 and 1997.In 1998, the songwriting partnership composed another batch of songs, and further recording sessions ensued. These recordings were done on 4 track, in preparation for studio sessions booked for the fall of 1998, where 4 more songs were recorded: two at Tin Wolfe Studios in Sherborn, MA (produced by Tom Tincer), and another two at Joe Marazzo’s studio, in Newton, MA.In 2002, after a three year hiatus, Johari’s Window began yet another chapter in their career, and embarked upon a productive cycle of writing and recording. In 2004, Johari started laying down tracks for their latest release. In the summer of 2007, Dean and David put the finishing touches on the tracks. At last, the album was ready for mixing and mastering. Released on October 1st, 2007, VICE NEEDS VIRTUE is the band’s debut LP.Johari’s Window is currently recording tracks, again working with Joe Marazzo.
