About Me

Hello my name is Jarritt. I am a trumpet player that lives in Orlando, FL. I am primarily a jazz musician but I interested/perform many kinds of music, art and culture. I have been blessed enough to make music with some great and musicians and travel to different parts of the country and the world while doing it. For the past year I have been performing and teaching in the greater Orlando area. This space is here to invite friends in the real world, acquaintances, and the people I have met on my travels to shoot me a message I would love to hear from you. Born in the nations capital Washington DC, I grew up in a household surrounded by music, art, and affection. I began playing the trumpet at the age of 15 but did not become serious about the trumpet until my discovery of jazz at 17. My passion for jazz led me to pursue music at the Florida A&M University (FAMU) where I attained my B.S. degree in Music, and was a member of the world renowned FAMU Marching ‘100.’ After touring briefly in 2005, in 2006 I would seek out my Masters of Music in Jazz Studies from Northern Illinois University. During my time at Northern Illinois University I had the great opportunity to tour/perform/study with such greats as Art Davis, Peter Erskine, Jiggs Wigham, Jimmy Heath, John Clayton, Antonio Hart, Terrell Stafford, Clark Terry, and Roy Hargrove. In my free time I traveled into the city (Chicago) to perform with various Deejays, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Funk, and Salsa bands. I also became involved in the professional musician scene and performed at historic venues such as the Green Mill, The Jazz Showcase, and the Velvet Lounge. I am currently freelancing in Orlando and focusing on my own projects/ensembles. Jarritt is an active educator and teaches private lessons, ensembles, and workshops. He is on faculty at the Timber Creek High School, where he directs the jazz TCHS band. Jarritt is currently finishing the recording of his first cd, done trio style. Jarritt can be seen regularly at Underground Bluz and Natura Coffee & Tea where his “BLU-TRIO” and his large ensemble “Bionic Soul” hold residences. You can also check out Jarritt’s writing skill on the online jazz publication jazzreview.com, of which he is a freelance writer and music reviewer. The road to success is not straight...*There is a curve called FAILURE, a loop called CONFUSION, speed bumps called FRIENDS, red lights called ENEMIES, and caution lights called FAMILY. You will have flats called JOBS. But, if you have a spare called DETERMINATION, an engine called PERSEVERANCE, insurance called FAITH, a driver called GOD, you will make it to a place called SUCCESS!
