Hi. I'm Rodrigo Pinheiro a musician and improviser living at Lisboa, Portugal.. My main project is with the double bassist Hêrnani Faustino and the drummer Gabriel Ferrandini at RED Trio, a piano trio focused on highly energetic and fast free improvised music.
I was born in 1973 at Covilhã, a small town at the center of Portugal where I started learning music at the age of five. When I was eighteen I moved to Lisboa and at the same time I began to get increasingly involved with the free improvisation scene at Portugal. Since then I got the opportunity to work with musicians like Américo Rodrigues, José Oliveira, Nuno Rebelo, Rodrigo Amado, Luis Desirat, Bruno Parrinha, Ernesto Rodrigues, Hiroshi Kobayashi, Cristin Wilboltz, Patrick Brennan, Nathan Fuhr and lots of other musicians from Portugal and abroad. I also had the opportunity to work and learn with musicians like Carlos ZÃngaro, Peter Kowald, Gunther Muller, and more recently with John Zorn who directed the "Cobra Portuguese Ensemble" where I played the piano.
Today, besides RED Trio I'm also a member of the Variable Geometry Orchestra and I have lots of fun playing on occasional gigs.
