About Me

I'm a percussionist, composer, producer, and teacher. Classical, jazz, rock/pop, funk, experimental, etc. I teach at UNC-Asheville and the Asheville Music School. I play with lots of folks. I call myself an abstract romanticist. I try to create musical worlds that you've never been to before, but where you feel right at home.

There's a full bio at my site: matthewrichmond.net

"We thought of life by analogy with a journey, with a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end, and the thing was to get to that end - success or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you’re dead. But we missed the point the whole way along. It was a musical thing, and you were supposed to sing or to dance while the music was being played."
- Alan Watts
